Congenital Syphilis Cases on the Rise

According to TDH's Steffany Cavallo's talk during the TIPQC Annual Meeting, Syphilis and Congenital Syphilis cases have dramatically increased. From 2017 to 2021, TDH reports a 227% increase in congenital syphilis cases, compared to a 185% increase nationally. Over 60% of preventable congenital syphilis infections in TN were among women with no or late prenatal care." New TDH screening guidelines were published in January 2024. ACOG just released their updated clinical guidance regarding screening for syphilis in pregnancy.
