NSD Annual Form Notifications & ParentVUE/StudentVUE

On Tuesday, November 3, NSD Communications emailed all families about the requirement to electronically acknowledge the annual District form notifications by Tuesday, November 17. This was followed up with communication directly to WHS families. As indicated, usually these forms have been provided in welcome back packets, but because of COVID-19 they were moved online to ParentVUE for parents/guardians and to StudentVUE for students.

Until December 7, families and students had the ability to bypass acknowledging the forms and to ask questions. As of Dec. 7, families and students must acknowledge the forms before they will be able to view any information in StudentVue or ParentVue.
  • WA State Attendance Letter
  • Rights and Responsibilities Handbook
  • Weapons Letter
  • Student Housing Questionnaire
  • Immunization Record Sharing
For those parents/guardians that have not yet completed the acknowledgement, we ask that you login to ParentVUE today to view and acknowledge these forms, as the due date has passed.
  • If you have never logged into ParentVUE, you will find instructions on how to do so when you click the link above.
  • If you need your user name and password for ParentVUE, email whsattendance@nsd.org.
  • Please know that when you next login to ParentVUE, you will be prompted to download, read, and take action for each of the forms listed above.
For those Woodinville students who have also not yet completed the process, you will be prompted to download, read and acknowledge the Rights and Responsibilities Handbook when logging in to StudentVUE.  Again, please complete this process, as the due date has passed.
  • The applicable parent/guardian and/or student acknowledgement(s) must be completed by ALL parents/guardians and students in NSD.
  • Please note both parents/guardians and students must type their electronic signature exactly as it appears in ParentVUE/StudentVUE or you may get an error message.

The forms are available in the District’s five most common languages: English, Spanish, Chinese, Russian, and Telugu. If you would like to access a paper copy of these forms, please contact your school’s main office.

If you have any questions about these forms, please contact Student Services at (425) 408-7725 or by email at studentsvcs@nsd.org. This information is also available on our website.

Message from your WHS Counselors

Welcome to 2021! The WHS Counseling Team is excited to be back after a relaxing winter break. We look forward to working with our students to end the semester strong, to prepare for second semester, to provide continued mental health and emotional support and to assist our seniors as they continue to apply for colleges.

First semester ends January 22nd
With the end of the semester approaching, we want to remind students to make the most of these last few weeks. Sometimes, the difference between one grade and the next is the completion of a few more assignments. For Freshman, this is an exciting time, as your 1st semester grades may be the first grades on your high school transcript that will start your GPA. For Juniors, these are the grades your college admission officers will be looking at when you apply next year.

Here are some tips to end the semester strong:
  • Talk with your teacher. Your teachers are the experts on the subject and are the best resource for the material. Stay after class to ask questions or visit them during office hours. Now is the time!
  • Prioritize your missing assignments with your teachers: if you can't complete all of your outstanding assignments, make sure to spend your time doing the assignments that will give you the most amount of points. Talk with your teacher to make a plan.
  • Start small. Is that list of missing assignments creating feelings of stress and anxiety? Instead of focusing on ALL your missing assignments, start with just one. Find your best study area and commit to working on that one nagging assignment for 20 minutes. After 20 minutes, assess your status and determine if you can keep going or need to take a walk/snack break before continuing. Once you completed and turned in your assignment, make sure to brag about it and celebrate your success!
  • Reach out to your counselor! We are here to advocate for you and help you navigate through stress, anxiety, and concerns. We have many tools in our toolbox to help students address mental health concerns, academic planning, and for finding success in classes. We love to hear from you!
  • Don't give up. Teachers love seeing students trying their best, especially when it's hard. "You won't succeed if you never try." Keep believing in yourself and doing the best you can do.

Seniors - High School and Beyond Plans due January 31! Scholarship opportunities!
Our seniors have been actively applying to colleges and meeting admission deadlines- way to go! If you have questions about the application process or find that your documents are not successfully submitted to your universities, please do not hesitate to reach out to your counselor for support.
Next steps include finishing your High School and Beyond Plan (HSBP), a graduation requirement, and applying for scholarships (not required, but helpful).
  • The High School and Beyond Plan (HSBP) is a requirement due by January 31, 2021. You can access assigned tasks via your Naviance account. The mandatory Senior advisory period on Friday 1/8 walked seniors through the process. Ms. Gerlinger also has open sessions to assist seniors with the HSPB over these next three weeks (access her via her Ms. Gerlinger's Zoom Room Wednesday, January 13 and 27th from 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM). Our website also has information posted: https://woodinville.nsd.org/counseling/naviance
  • Scholarship resources available: paying for college can be a stressful thing. There are many scholarships available with various deadlines. Check out our scholarship resources on the counseling webpage at: https://woodinville.nsd.org/counseling/college-information. The Scholarship Foundation of Northshore has scholarships available for Northshore students (only) with a deadline of February 15th: https://sf-ns.awardspring.com/Home/Scholarships. Get those applications submitted!

Families can verify contact information in ParentVUE. Please contact the WHS office today if you need help accessing ParentVUE or updating contact information.

In the event of an emergency, or if winter weather conditions impact the school schedule or affect meal distribution or Books on the Bus, families will receive a phone call, email and/or text message from the District. Information will also be posted on the District website at nsd.org and social media channels. If no information is communicated, there is no change to schedules.

As a reminder, there is detailed information on our District website if your family loses power and/or internet during distance learning due to inclement weather.

New E-Flyer Platform - Peachjar

We are excited to share that we have moved our e-flyer program to a platform called Peachjar. We receive many requests from local non-profit organizations to distribute program fliers. Peachjar will help facilitate the process of submitting, reviewing, approving and posting e-flyers. With the move to this platform, all e-flyers that are submitted to Peachjar will then be reviewed and approved by District staff to ensure that they meet the District guidelines. We are committed to providing access to all individuals seeking information on our District website. All submitted PDFs must meet accessibility requirements to be approved for distribution. We also encourage organizations to submit flyers in the top five languages spoken in our district.

City of Woodinville Seeks Input on ADA Plan

The City of Woodinville is putting together a long-term plan to improve accessibility and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) for our streets, sidewalks, parks, and other public facilities.

The City is looking to engage the local community throughout this planning process, particularly community members with disabilities. As they put together the plan, one of the topics the City is most interested in hearing about from residents and others who spend time here is where the City should focus its efforts over the next 3-5 years to fix accessibility barriers. Options include pedestrian crosswalks, locations near schools, and more. The City is also interested in hearing about any specific barriers of concern (such as a particular sidewalk curb-ramp on a student’s route to school).

The City has a Mobility for All ADA Transition plan webpage  (https://engagewoodinville.com/mobility-for-all-plan) as well as a survey for families and students attending Woodinville schools who may have an interest in this topic. Completing the survey is the quickest and easiest way to provide feedback on priorities and help with barrier identification. Anyone in the NSD family is more than welcome to reach out to Maia Know, Management Analyst for the City of Woodinville, for a more in-depth discussion at d: (425) 877-2267 | m: (206) 637-2932 |e: maiak@ci.woodinville.wa.us.

Power or Internet Outage - What To Do

We understand that weather incidents may cause a loss of power when students and staff are engaged in distance learning. Our district's Technology, Northshore Learns, and Communications teams collaborated with educators to develop a plan for notifications about power outages, access to service, and how everyone can prepare ahead of time to adjust and continue learning. Please visit our website to learn what to do if your power goes out or if your teacher's power goes out.

Washington's K-12 Internet   Access Program: Check Eligibility for Free Internet Access

Having reliable connectivity to the internet is critical for your student’s success during distance learning. The state recognizes this need, and has partnered with Ziply Fiber and Comcast/Xfinity to create Washington’s K–12 Internet Access Program, which gives eligible families free internet access so your student can connect to online learning from home.

This internet access opportunity will provide you with faster, stronger and more reliable connectivity than hotspots or tethering to mobile devices, which will better support your student. If eligible, your free internet access is available through June 30, 2021.
Complete information and the steps to check elegibility, can be found on the Woodinville High School Website.

New Information up on Mental Health Matters!
A lot has been going on in the first week of the new year, so we have added excellent new information to our Mental Health Matters page. Please note, you now have the option to email Ms. Kakalecik and our School Counseling Intern Keenan Schoen to schedule a meeting.

We have updated the articles under Weekly Wellness Links with information you might find valuable. We picked these articles from a wealth of recent information dealing with COVID and its effects on Mental Health.

Under What Do You Want To Know?, you will find recent questions from students, which you may also wonder about.

We have added a page for TeenLink, The National Child Traumatic Stress Network, and links to several apps that can help you deal with stress and anxiety, as well as a page with a selection of books and support for parents

Last but not least, on the Home page, you will find a video showcasing the excellent stress-reducing 5-5-5 breathing technique that Ms. Kakalecik loves and has been teaching her students during her sessions to help them de-stress. You will also find a link to important information on how to prevent cyberbullying.

Stay tuned as each week we will be adding new information to the web page geared towards Mental Health and Living your Best Life!

We are wishing you and yours a great start to this new year!

Below, through students' NSD Google account, they will find a link to a document with flyers from every Woodinville High School club. These flyers will have a brief description of each club as well how to contact said club. Along with the flyers there is also a master list with every club and easily accessible contact information:  https://docs.google.com/document/d/1n_xSSB6uaLNthk5EhsGZJdR08yfQEwsbmDP1t2HYW-A/edit?usp=sharing

Follow NSD Reopening Plan & Safety Protocols

The following plan was developed by District staff in preparation for a return to school and District buildings when it is safe to do so. The information in this handbook is intended to help everyone understand required safety protocols and know what to expect for every student and staff member. As the pandemic data and state response continue to evolve, District staff will continue to review, refine, and adjust this plan as needed. We remain grateful for their efforts.

The return to in-person learning will be most successful and have the best chance to be sustainable if we are all prepared and working together. We ask that you familiarize yourself and your students with the following health department protocols and CDC requirements.

During the COVID-19 outbreak, our community continues to come together to assist to families and community members in need. Apply for Free & Reduced Price Meals Today!

While Northshore is currently providing free meals, this support is made possible by temporary USDA funding. If this funding changes, the District may be required to charge families based on their current eligibility for meals. Have you applied for free and reduced-price meals this year?

If your family qualified last year, you need to reapply this year to ensure that your student receives free or reduced price meals once the current free meals program ends. It is important to apply today so that your eligibility status doesn’t lapse. If an application was not in process for a returning student by October 14, 2020, the student’s account was automatically transferred to a paid account the next school day. Please know that the number of eligible students for free and reduced price meals connects to the District’s Title I funding, which provides additional support at schools to help students succeed. Additionally, if your family income has decreased, you may be eligible for free or reduced-price school meals.

In addition to receiving free or reduced-price meals, your eligibility also provides
  • Reduced fee for Camp Cedar Spring
  • Reduced fee for PSAT and Advanced Placement Testing
  • Reduced fee for sports/athletics
  • Reduced fee for summer school
  • Access to Backpack Program, which provides backpacks and school supplies
  • Access to Operation School Bell, which provides clothes and personal products
To find out if you are eligible and to apply online visit our website.
School Lunch Information
NSD is offering free meals for all children ages 18 and younger.
Students do not need to be enrolled in the Northshore School District to receive meals. NSD requires that all families wear a mask and maintain physical distancing when picking up their meals. Thank you for helping to keep our drivers and families safe.
