The University Chaplaincy provides support and resources to students of any, all, or no particular spiritual or religious tradition. The chaplaincy helps raise awareness about religious diversity on campus and in the world; offers diverse options for spiritual exploration and growth; and provides social, personal, and spiritual care for students. The chaplaincy also supports student clubs and communities related to religion and spirituality as needed.
Parents and families are always welcome at the major events, including the Campus Passover Seder, Diwali Celebration, Christmas at Kilworth, and the Interfaith Baccalaureate Celebration. The office's student leaders develop new and creative programs that speak to the needs of the campus community. From the popular “fill your cup” affirmation cards to grief support to guided meditations, the chaplaincy connects with students of many different backgrounds and needs.
The Chaplaincy also supports the Swope Endowed Lectures Series, which brings scholars, artists, intellectuals, and community leaders to campus to engage in themes of faith, ethics, values, and religion. The next Swope Lecture will be on Sept. 24, when we will welcome Robin Wall Kimmerer, author of Braiding Sweetgrass.
As chaplain, Rev. Dave Wright ’96 is a confidential resource for students, faculty, staff, and community members who would like to talk privately about issues relating to personal or spiritual wellbeing. Dave also supports the broader university community through Commencement, new student orientation, and in collaboration with the Office of Institutional Equity & Diversity. You can reach Dave by email at dwright@pugetsound.edu.

How to Support Your Student's Mental Health
|
Young adulthood is a complex time marked by growing independence and personal responsibility, but there is still a role for parents and families to play in supporting mental health and wellbeing. The National Alliance on Mental Wellness has an article on their website about how to help your student. If you think your student may be struggling, encourage them to visit Counseling, Health, and Wellness Services (CHWS), which offers one-on-one counseling, referrals, and other resources.

Would your Logger student benefit from an alumni mentor? It’s time to sign up for the Logger Link Matched Mentorship Program! This program is available to students of all class years, so encourage your student to attend an info session to learn more!
Alumni mentors know what it's like to be a Logger student, and they are perfectly positioned to mentor. They are ready to provide a listening ear, sage career advice, and to become a part of your student's network!
As a part of the program, students will:
|
-
Attend an information session that’s designed to set them up for success as a mentee.
- View mentor profiles and indicate their preferred matches.
- Be matched with one Logger alum for the full school year.
- Meet with their mentor at least once per month. We provide guided conversation topics if they’re not sure where to start!
|
Attend an information session on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 5:30 p.m. in Murray Boardroom (Wheelock Student Center 108) or Wednesday, Sept. 25 at noon in the Rotunda (Wheelock Student Center). Attending an information session is required to participate in the matched program.
