Customers are Visiting, But Sales are Slightly Down
Customer counts continue to be positive over the prior year with sales averaging under 1% down over the prior year for the first two weeks of the month. The interesting part of five of the last six weeks is that customer counts are up. People are coming to the grocery store. So the big question with food inflation relatively flat is: How do you increase the shopper spend on each visit? Do you offer online ordering? How do you encourage a bigger ring through cross merchandising, or ads focusing on bigger ticket items, or multi-item purchase discounts?
