Weekly Announcements for September 25, 2026

World Quaker Day is on 4 October 2026, and this year’s theme is Let Peace Be Among Us. The Friends World Committee for Consultation (FWCC) is planning an extended Global Online Worship on the day, bringing together Friends across borders, languages and Quaker traditions with a shared focus on peace. The worship will last for 8+ hours, reaching across many time zones from the Americas to Aotearoa/New Zealand. Each hour of worship will be dedicated to a part of the world where prayers for peace are particularly needed – you’re welcome to join for as little or as long as you’d like. Meetings are invited to "Zoom-in" together.

In collaboration with the outgoing Presiding Clerk, the BYM General Secretary proposes a 12- to 18-month process to consult with BYM monthly meetings and yearly meeting committees to study the structures of our Yearly Meeting. An info session about this proposal was scheduled for Wed, 09/30 but has been rescheduled for Wed, 10/07 due to a scheduling conflict. The study group would seek to identify the pain points in our efforts to support the thriving of monthly meetings and to engage in larger undertakings together - and make proposals for change. The goal is to consult and report-back over the next year and  bring some initial ideas to Annual Session 2027 for threshing. 

Please join BYM Peace and Social Concerns Committee on Sept 30 at 7pm for a special conversation with Nadine Hoover (NYYM) about Friends Peace Teams. Come learn how Friends around the world support one another in peace, justice, spiritual practice, and community transformation—and discover resources you can bring to your Monthly Meeting, school, or ministry. Friends involved with Friends Peace Teams are especially encouraged to attend and share their experience. All interested Friends are welcome! Explore resources for AVP, First Day School, conscientious objection, right relationship with Native peoples, economic justice, global connections, and student internships.

Hopewell Centre Quakers invite you to a fall spirituality retreat at their Meeting House in Clearbrook, VA on Saturday, October 3rd from 10am - 1pm. RSVP kindly requested by Sept 28 but Walk-Ins welcome! ALL are welcome to this day-long, inclusive gathering featuring fellowship, refreshments, and four workshop options. The day includes opportunities to try a spiritually diverse range of centering spiritual practices including yoga, Qigong, Zentangle, and a Quaker Healing Circle. 

BYM has received 8 copies of Barclay's Apology in Modern English and the Journal of George Fox from Arch Street Meeting, a project of a 100-year-old publications trust under the care of the Meeting.
