On Saturday, June 8, people we support, friends, employees, and the community gathered to kick off the summer at The Arc Montgomery County's annual picnic! Guests enjoyed the food trucks, music, and games that made for a special day.

National Disability Employment Awareness Month

Come Out to the Ball Game!

We are thrilled to be selected as one of the Bethesda Big Train Baseball Community Heroes. Come out to the ball game on July 6, for an evening of fun–we will have a table set up to share information about The Arc with the community and then throw out a ceremonial first pitch! This is a family-friendly event held at Shirley Povich Field in Rockville.

Free Concerts in July

Montgomery Parks is hosting free concerts this summer. The weekly concerts will be on Thursdays from 6 to 8 pm at various parks around Montgomery County. Guests should plan to bring their picnic blankets or chairs. Some events will have food and beverages for purchase on-site.

Air Travel Resource Seminar

Do you or your loved one have a goal to travel more with more independence, but you're not sure where to start?

The Arc of Northern Virginia's Tech for Independent Living team is partnering with Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) and United Airlines to host an informative webinar for families and their loved ones with disabilities and for those with a disability who are traveling independently on July 16.

The webinar will include presentations from TSA, United Airlines, Traveler's Aid, Public Safety, Arc2Independence, and DCA Airport.

Digital Library Cards

Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL) now offer an online application system for getting full-service digital library cards. This gets rid of the need for in-person visits to County library branches to apply for a card. This new system provides a more convenient and efficient way to access MCPL’s extensive collection of digital resources, including e-books, audiobooks, online databases, and programs.

Arc2Indepence Camp

July 8–12, from 10 am to 12:30 pm, the Tech for Independent Living Team from The Arc of Northern Virginia will host a camp at The Arc Loudoun. Attendees will have a chance to enjoy activities, socialize, and develop independence skills with the help of the Arc2Indpendence app. Attendees with intellectual and developmental disabilities must be 14 years and older and a caregiver (18 years and older) who can commit to participate for the week, must attend together.
