Urban Fresh, Raptor Canyon Café and Café 54 have joined forces to create Pennington Street Outdoor Food Court located at the northwest corner of Pennington Street and Scott Avenue.

Pima County partnership provides funding for outdoor cafés in Downtown Tucson

A plethora of restaurants will soon be offering alfresco dining thanks to a new grant program made possible through a partnership between Pima County and the Downtown Tucson Partnership. The new Outdoor Café Grant Program provides up to $5,000 to expand or enhance outdoor cafés. This program is designed to off-set costs associated with higher quality barriers, furnishings and amenities for outdoor seating areas.

In total, the DTP has received nineteen outdoor café applications totaling just over $99,000. “This comes at a time when small local restaurants are struggling to stay open,” stated Chuck Huckelberry, Pima County Administrator. “The social distancing requirements coupled with the need to rebuild consumer confidence make this program the solution restaurants so desperately need to survive.”

Pima County has adopted a set of protective health and safety measures for businesses to follow in order to reopen safely to the public. Following these rules will decrease the chances of the spread of COVID-19 in your establishment. It will help protect you, your vital workforce, and your patrons.

Most downtown businesses are following these guidelines, but not all have registered through the Ready for You program. Click here to make the Ready For Your pledge and receive certification.

The County is conducting a comprehensive media campaign promoting Ready For You certified businesses. Join hundreds of other businesses who are gaining consumer confidence while communicating to the public that their business is doing all it can to protect its patrons from the spread of COVID-19.

All certified businesses will be listed on the pimaready.com website in addition to the downtowntucson.org website.

Free COVID testing options

Pima County is offering free COVID-19 testing at several locations across the county. Weekend appointments available with results expected within 72 hours. Go to pima.gov/covid19testing for locations and information and get tested.

100th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment and Women's Suffrage

To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment granting women in the United States the right to vote, Pima County joined with local communities in the Forward into the Light campaign across the country in a celebration of this milestone of American democracy.

The Pima County Historic Courthouse was lit in purple and gold – the official colors of the suffrage movement - at sunset on Aug. 26 along with buildings and landmarks nationwide. The building will state purple and gold through this weekend.
