Latest News on the NEA - House Proposes Modest Funding Reduction for FY2018
On July 18, the House Appropriations Committee approved its version of the fiscal year 2018 budget for the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) at $145 million - a $5 million reduction from the previous year. The legislation now awaits consideration on the floor of the House of Representatives, which could come any time between now and September 30 (when current funding expires).
While amendments to the legislation during floor debate are possible, it is likely that House leadership will not permit such activity in order to maintain the delicate balance the bill has thus far struck to win support of the Republican caucus.
The Senate Interior Appropriations Subcommittee is now working on its draft proposal.  While our Nebraska Senators do not have positions on the Appropriations Committee, we encourage you to continue communicating with our Congressional delegation the importance of the NEA for supporting the arts and community vitality across the state. An easy way to do this is through our VoterVoice system. Click the "Find Your Legislator" tab and follow the steps to send an email to your elected reprsentatives.
