Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) have been affected the most by currently tough and challenging economic environment. Based on the latest Annual Financial Statistics Report from Statistics South Africa, the debt-to-equity ratio in the private sector has been falling since 2005 (Stats SA 2016). This means that companies are borrowing more to fund its operations compared to the investment made by shareholders and profits retained. In 2014, this ratio was as low as 1.9 for all industries in the private sector compared to 2.6 in 2005.

5. COMPENSATION FUND NOTIFICATION
On Tuesday 17 October 2017, the CCMA Director, Mr. Cameron Morajane, will be briefing stakeholders on the CCMA 2016/17 Annual Performance. The CCMA achieved a 15% performance increase compared to the previous financial year’s 76%, despite the increase in the caseload.
