REMINDER: Juneteenth Recognized as a State Holiday |
The state of Tennessee has officially recognized Juneteenth as a legal state holiday. Thank you to Gov. Bill Lee and our Tennessee General Assembly for passing this meaningful legislation. As a result of this state recognition, the University of Tennessee System will now observe Juneteenth as a systemwide paid holiday beginning June 2023. This means our offices, campuses and institutes will be closed on June 19, in recognition of this national holiday. This holiday also provides employees an opportunity to honor the present and reflect on our shared history and tradition.

Upcoming Events of Interest |
The world is rich with diversity. Life flourishes when environments are welcoming of all values.
To support an inclusive environment, but not to promote or inhibit the celebration of any religious holidays, an updated observance calendar is included in this newsletter each month. Diversity is the one thing we have in common–celebrate it every day.
View the June calendar below for a full list of observances.

On Monday, June 19, we honor Juneteenth – a day to commemorate the emancipation of the last remaining enslaved African Americans in the U.S. As we honor this federal and TN state holiday, we celebrate freedom and recognize that we must continue to work together to build communities and a world of inclusion. We remain committed to taking actionable steps to strengthen our culture of inclusion at UT.
