The Missouri Maternal Health Action Network held its FFY 24 Quarter 3 meeting on June 18, 2024. The meeting comprised vital stakeholders and strategic partners such as organizations, service providers, and mothers with lived experience.

Health Care Access & Quality |

The Health Care Access & Quality workgroup identified strengths and needs relating to a centralized system to streamline services and ensure sustainability. Strengths: (1) Unite Us, (2) TIES (Team for Infants Endangered by Substance Abuse) in KC, (3) KC Promise 1000, findhelp.org. Needs: (1) need to determine how Unite Us could impact the whole State, (3) the BoRN platform in the Bootheel as a model, (4) Medicaid to cover more services (i.e., dentures, sedation with dental care, and coverage for those who are overweight, (5) possible policy changes, (6) resources for those in recovery but need anxiety or pain control, (7) caseworkers that work with the whole family – one-stop shop caseworker.
- Emphasized the importance of increased education and awareness of resources and navigating the healthcare system.
- Emphasized the importance of community engagement and peer support for mothers throughout the recovery journey (i.e., the importance of peer support for mothers throughout the recovery process).

- Inadequate support systems and lack of support for mothers who are rebuilding. It is important to have tools and resources among existing providers.

Mom Advocacy Representative(s) |
Mom Advocacy Representatives participate in various regional and statewide activities, including the Action Network’s Leadership and Self-Advocacy Academy. Together, they are charged with identifying gaps and barriers that prevent mothers affected by substance use from receiving needed services.
|
A selected Mom Advocacy Representative responsible for assisting in the coordination of regional and statewide activities and member recruitment for the Moms’ Advocacy Network. The Mom Advocacy Leader provides a collective voice for the Moms’ Advocacy Network and assists the Planning Committee in identifying critical points of interest to consider as it guides the work of the Action Network.

Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) |
An online interactive map is provided to help families in Missouri find out where their children can receive free meals this summer. The map shows sites where children must sit and eat the meal, but the map also shows certain rural sites that are designated as non-congregate multi-day meal pick-up sites.

Addiction Recovery Program |
The Citizens Memorial Hospital Addiction Recovery Program serves individuals struggling with Substance Use Disorder located in the southwest region of Missouri. Our team offers individualized, outpatient treatment programs through peer support, counseling, behavioral therapy, and medication-assisted treatment.

Springfield-Greene County Health |
Springfield-Greene County Health launched an evidence-based nurse home visiting program called Family Connects in late spring. Family Connects provides a free nurse home visit to all families with a newborn in Greene County. This is a voluntary program where a family is paired with a registered nurse and will receive a health assessment for mom and baby, screenings including mental health, education on caregiving, breastfeeding support, safe sleep, etc., as well as a robust plan for referrals to community resources.

Birth-I-Con is an education event with in-person ticket options at Menorah Medical Center as well as virtual. Keynote speakers include Heidi Faith of Stillbirthday discussion Bereavement Care and Kristen Mason of Birth It Forward discussing respectful, trauma informed advocacy in the birth space. Mobile Wellness, Saint Francis’s 45′ mobile healthcare coach, houses a state-of-the-art 3D mammography unit as its primary service offering. Mobile Wellness will travel the region 45-50 weeks of the year, removing barriers to care and ensuring residents across southeast Missouri have access to life-saving preventative breast cancer screenings, as well as other necessary healthcare services.
Preventative screenings are covered by insurance, including Medicaid. Patients without insurance may qualify for a free screening through Dig for Life and the Saint Francis Foundation.

The CRIS Link makes accessing early childhood (prenatal to five) home visiting services easy for anyone in Missouri who needs it. It is a one-stop shop for anyone to make an early childhood home visiting referral in Missouri through one of five Regional CRIS Networks, depending on the needs and location of each family. Whether you are a home visiting provider, a medical professional, an educator, or a caregiver seeking services, you can make a referral for a family using the CRIS Link.
Select the family’s county using the CRIS Link below to find their Regional CRIS Network and referral form. Once a referral is submitted, the Regional CRIS Network will assign the referred family to a home visiting program based on the family’s needs and eligibility, and the program’s capacity.
The assigned home visiting agency will then contact the family to tell them more about their program and offer services.
