Federal Funding Secured for GA 400 Express Lane Project |
A nearly $4 billion federal loan has been awarded through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Transportation Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (TIFIA) program to fund the construction of two new express lanes in each direction along a 16-mile stretch of GA 400.
The project will run from MARTA’s North Springs station to just past McFarland Parkway in Forsyth County, with construction expected to begin in the first quarter of 2026. In addition, developers plan to invest $75 million in a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system that will utilize 12 miles of the new express lanes, operated by MARTA.
Kristin Winzeler, Executive Director of True North 400, emphasized the significance of this investment, “This level of federal support not only emphasizes the importance of the SR 400 express lane project, but really the importance of Georgia 400 as an economic driver for the state of Georgia. There are a lot of jobs, a lot of workforce and a lot of commercial property in this corridor. It’s a very exciting time for this project to be coming to fruition.”
True North 400 will continue to keep members, businesses and stakeholders informed as this historic infrastructure investment takes shape.

Haynes Bridge Road: A Five-Mile Stretch with Generations of History
Haynes Bridge Road may be just five miles long, but its history runs deep in North Fulton. Once home to pioneer families like the Haynes and Mayfields, the road traces back to farmland that would eventually becomes today’s North Point Mall. Over the years, it has connected communities, hosted family farms and even inspired local stories passed down through generations.
Today, Haynes Bridge Road remains a significant connector between Alpharetta and Johns Creek, though its origins are not widely known.
In addition to its historic significance, the area also reflects modern enhancements. True North 400 partnered with the City of Alpharetta on the Haynes Bridge Interchange Landscaping project, a beautification effort that added landscape and hardscape features to create a welcoming “gateway” into the community. The CID continues to maintain the interchange, ensuring it remains both a functional connector and a visual landmark.
