2018 Winter Walk and Bike Week

Join us for the 9th annual Winter Walk and Bike Week, starting Monday, Feb. 5, through Sunday, Feb. 11, with Bike to Work Day celebrations on Friday, Feb. 9.
With 300+ days of sunshine throughout the year and a great walking and bicycling environment, how can you resist?
The week kicks off on Monday, Feb. 5 with a walk and bike ride with local community leaders and fellow walk and bike commuters.
This year, Boulder will be participating in the international Winter Bike to Work Day challenge on Friday, Feb. 9. Help put Boulder on the global stage and also show your local support for bicycling and walking!
On Saturday Feb. 10, join us on a family fun Light Up the Night walk and bike ride!
More information about all the events and workshops during this week can be found on the Winter Walk and Bike Week webpage.

Safe Routes to School

The City of Boulder is collaborating with Boulder Valley School District (BVSD) on a CDOT Safe Routes to School grant that supports the Toward Vision Zero program.
The project started in 2017 and will run through May 2019, focusing on three elementary schools in Boulder: Mesa, University Hill and Whittier.
This project addresses both real and perceived transportation safety issues associated with bicycling and walking to school. In addition to providing safety education to improve safety awareness for all road users, this project will also identify and prioritize infrastructure improvements to create safer routes to school.
The city regularly partners with BVSD on a variety of projects, including the recent Hanover Avenue multi-use path, which improved the travelling routes to four different schools in the area.

Second-Graders’ Input on the HOP Brings National Recognition

For the project, “Engaging the Future Generation of Transit Riders,” Whittier second-graders studied the HOP route and bus stops first-hand—taking pictures along the way to identify what they did and did not like about the experience —and researched bus stops from around the world.

Their recommendations resulted in a new bench at the Pearl and 19th Street stop and the “How Many Bunnies Do You See?” murals installed in all HOP buses.

The project is one of five that was honored in Washington, D.C., by the Transportation Research Board (TRB) in its annual competition, “Communicating Concepts with John and Jane Q. Public.” Learn more.

Branded Bikeway and BRT Station Signs

The City of Boulder, in partnership with Commuting Solutions and communities throughout the northwest metro region, are bringing branded wayfinding signage to the US36 Bikeway and Flatiron Flyer stations. The signs help to create transportation options that are easy, accessible and make cycling and transit feel safe for all travelers. The first signs at the Table Mesa station are up, and look for more to be installed in the coming weeks.
