Welcome PhD and Master's Cohort
A new cohort of master’s degree and PhD students are embarking on their academic journeys at NYU Shanghai. This year, approximately 250 new students were admitted to the master’s and PhD programs, hailing from countries such as China, United States, Netherlands, France, Germany, and Indonesia. PhD programs in eight disciplines welcomed 22 new students.

Open Courses Unlock Lifelong Learning
A non-degree program — NYU Shanghai Open Courses—launched this summer. Its first course, The Future of Learning with Innovative Media, jointly developed by NYU Shanghai and NYU’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development, attracted 83 students.

• The Staff Council kicked off Fall with a double dose of connection among faculty and staff—first with the Speed Networking with Colleagues mixer, where 26 participants sparked fresh ideas for collaboration, and followed by Parenting Roundtable Talk, where more than 30 colleagues shared the joys and challenges of raising kids and traded tips for self-care. Missed out? The Parent Connection Initiatives returns in November, and Speed Networking will return in Spring!
• It’s SEXtember! The Student Health Center and the Sexual Respect Committee launched a series of events on sexual health, wellness, and respect last week, including a condom carnival. More events will continue in the weeks to follow: STIs and birth control trivia, a Title IX tea party, and a workshop on how to say and hear no.

12 Students, 40 Kilometers, One Epic Trip
12 students from Run Shanghai—NYU Shanghai’s run club—traveled to Beijing to compete against 31 other university teams in the Nike 4K Relay Race, in which they covered a total distance of 40 km. “The beauty of sports lies in giving your all without regrets and in enjoying the support and joy of teamwork,” said Senior Program Coordinator for Fitness and Campus Recreation Jeremy Liu.

NYU Alums Win 28 Emmy AwardsNYU alumni were a mainstay on the stage of the 77th annual Emmy Awards in Los Angeles on September 14, taking home awards across major categories such as outstanding documentary, TV movie, and talk series. The 28 winners were honored for producing, directing, writing, and cinematography, as well as many design and technical categories.
