CELEBRATING 134 YEARS
This year marks UNT's 134th birthday! In 1890, President Joshua C. Chilton founded the Texas Normal College and Teacher Training Institute, today known as the University of North Texas. While a campus and buildings were planned, President Chilton began classes that year on Sept. 16, with about 70 students meeting above a hardware store on the Denton town square. Since those early days, UNT has grown into an institution educating nearly 47,000 students, with more than 480,000 alumni. Read more about UNT’s history.
This year’s Founder’s Day celebration will be from noon to 1:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, on the Library Mall. Stop by for free cupcakes, a photo booth, prizes and more! While you're there, a Mean Green Pride pop-up will distribute free T-shirts and swag to anyone following an official UNT social media account (while supplies last). Additional celebrations at Discovery Park will happen on Friday and at Frisco on Monday, Sept. 16. Join the fun and show your Mean Green spirit!

WELCOME HOME, CLOVER!
Last week, we asked you to help name the UNT Police Department’s new community support puppy, and after a close race, Clover was chosen! The name won over Jazz, Maple, Luna and Grace. Thank you to everyone who voted.
The UNT PD hopes to introduce Clover to the community by Homecoming week or shortly after. In the meantime, she'll be busy getting vaccinations and obedience training to prepare for her new campus role.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
UNT also is participating in Make a Difference Day, a nationally recognized day of service on Oct. 19. It’s a great way to support the Denton County community while earning service hours. Whether you’re volunteering solo or with a group, register by 11:59 p.m. on Sept. 22. Let’s give back and get involved!
