Hello Door County 4-H Families and Volunteers! 

I hope you are all having a fantastic summer!  It sure seems to be flying past - the 2025 Door County Fair will be here before we know it!

In this newsletter, you will find Fair related information (including Entry Tag Pick up dates, Pullorum Testing date, and FairEntry information), a Poultry & Rabbit Showmanship workshop, and State 4-H Horse Expo and Gymkhana entry information.  The FairEntry deadline is fast approaching and many of you have not completed this process yet.  I encourage you to do your Fair entries soon to avoid any issues!  Also - please note that there is a change in Entry Tag and Fair Pass pick up this year - see the information about this in this email.  

Please also note the change in our Extension Door County Office hours for the summer.  Our office will now be open Tuesday - Thursday from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.  If you need something outside of these hours, please email me or call to schedule an appointment.  I am sometimes in the office on days that it is closed, but I encourage you to call or email first to be sure.

The Dairy Bar during the Fair is the biggest fundraiser for the Door County 4-H program and we are still looking for help with some of the shifts for this year’s food stand!  All 4-H families are encouraged to help during at least one shift.  Talk to your Club Leader about working during your Club’s shift(s). If you are not available during your Club’s shift(s), considering signing up for another shift that needs help. A final schedule will be sent out to Leaders soon, but we could still use help for the following shifts:

           Saturday 8/16, 1:45 - 5:00 p.m.

           Saturday 8/16, 4:45 - 8:00 p.m.

The money raised from the Dairy Bar covers the costs of many Door County 4-H activities, scholarships, and trips.  Contact your Club Leader or the Extension Door County Office with any questions.  Thank you to everyone who helps to make this possible! 

The Door County Fair Board has graciously provided each Door County 4-H Club with a Promo Code that can be used when purchasing online admission to the Door County Fair.  These codes do not provide the purchaser with a discount, rather they specify the 4-H Club that will receive a portion of the sale.  Promo codes can only be used to purchase Season Admission to the Fair.  

To purchase tickets, go to the Door County Fair website:  https://www.doorcountyfair.com/. Click or scan the QR code at the top of the screen.  Click on "Have a PROMO Code?  Click Here First!".  Enter the code for your desired 4-H Club and continue through the steps to purchase.

Are you interested in learning more about showing your Poultry and/or Rabbits?  Join our fantastic volunteers for a 4-H Poultry and Rabbit Showmanship workshop on Saturday, August 2nd at 1:00 p.m. in the Poultry/Rabbit Building at the Fairgrounds.  

We do ask that everyone who is interested in attending fill out this registration form:  https://forms.gle/CSrtEh59fXFRGLgi8 by Wednesday, July 30th.  This will help our volunteers to ensure that they have enough supplies.

Registration is currently open for State 4-H Horse Expo (held September 12-14) and Gymkhana (held September 6) events.  Information and entry forms can be found on the Wisconsin 4-H Association website: https://4h.extension.wisc.edu/opportunities/projects/large-animals/horse-project/wisconsin-4-h-horse-association/

If you are interested in participating at either of these State 4-H Horse events, entries are due to the Extension Door County Office by Wednesday, July 30th.  We need to have enough time to ensure everything is correct and mail it in as a County packet before the State deadline.  

Members should talk to the Door County 4-H Horse & Pony Leader to ensure that you are entering in the correct categories. 

If you are planning to exhibit Poultry at the Door County Fair, your birds need to have Pullorum testing completed prior to the Fair (unless you have the required paperwork).  Contact (call or text) Poultry Superintendent Joe Dart at (219) 869-3518 for more information or with any questions.
