This week, it is ‘music to our ears’ to spotlight Max Cohen, a junior majoring in American Studies and Music. If you love rock and good vibes you are in for a sweet treat! Max is a part of Home Remedies, an independent rock band based at GW ‘making waves’ throughout the DMV area. Max states the “fantastic foursome” were inspired by the “poppier side of 90’s alternative as well as DIY folk icons like John Darnielle of The Mountain Goats, slapping together Weezer-esque earworm riffs and finger-picked odes about love and finding a place for yourself.”
The origins of the band began with two artists. Max shared an acoustic bill with Zach Basile and the pair bonded over a mutual appreciation of modern baseball leading them to create Home Remedies. Max shared that the two started playing each other’s songs and “in no time drummer Issac Appelbaum and bassist Andrew “Gibby” Gibson joined the fray.” The band is proud to announce that in less than a year Home Remedies has released a live record, headlined at DC9 and Union Stage, and has appeared in publications by the GW Hatchet, WRGW Blog, and the Washington City Paper. The band has had a meaningful impact on its audience and its devoted following of friends and fans are known as the “sickos.” In the fall, Home Remedies will debut its upcoming studio album, Goodnight Moon. Speaking about the forthcoming album, the band notes that “born from long summer nights in Zach’s NJ basement, the songs make a quaint but desperate plea for climate action.”
Mark your calendars! Home Remedies will be headlining at Songbyrd Music Hall on March 31st. Visit the link to purchase your ticket and support this talented band! Tickets available here.
