Prof. of African American Studies Renee Simms leads a classroom discussion about how images in films function as a public argument over different views of Black identity in the U.S. Students in Simms’ seminar are encouraged to examine the political economy of these images, engage in textual and visual analysis, and examine how audience reception reflects larger societal debates.
