"My College Experience"

Soddy Daisy High School Faculty & Staff share some thoughts on their own college experiences.

Amanda Williams

  • College/University: UTC
  • Why did you attend this school: Has a good geology program and it's local
  • Degree/Major: Geology with concentrations in Geology and STEM
  • Extracurricular Activities: Geology Club
  • Favorite college memories: Field trips, especially those involving camping.
  • Favorite class/professor and why: Jonathan Mies and Ann Holmes. Both are very good teachers and research advisors.
  • What do you know now that you wish you'd known then: What is it actually like facilitating a classroom. I love my job, but there is no teacher prep college experience that will offer the real thing.
  • Best piece of advice for our current SDHS seniors: Follow through with whatever it is you plan do to and try to be the best at it. Everyone around you has met the same criteria.

Nic Selbo

  • College/University: University of Wisconsin - Madison
  • Why did you attend this school: Wisconsin is simply the best in the country.
  • Degree/Major: Zoology
  • Minor: Genetics and History
  • Graduate Schools/Degrees: University of Tennessee - Chattanooga / Ed of Foreign Language
  • Extracurricular Activities: Cross Country and Track, Triathlon Club, Intramural Ultimate Frisbee and basketball.
  • Favorite college memories: Great friendships, chasing girls
  • Favorite class/professor and why: Human Physiology 300 - learned how I work, Taijiquan - mindful and deep.
  • What do you know now that you wish you had known then: I didn't learn how to learn until college. Learn now how to teach yourself.
  • Best piece of advice for our current SDHS seniors: Your future holds both storms and sunshine and rainbows, enjoy it all.
