Rovin Ian Antonio ’23, DPT’26 was the graduate student speaker at the 2026 Commencement Ceremony. An army veteran and Puget Sound alumnus, Antonio was a steadfast leader within his cohort, serving as co-president of the Student Physical Therapy Association. In this role, he organized program-wide events and secured partnerships to fund student research and global travel. Antonio also coordinated the Fall 2025 PT/OT Job Fair, connecting more than a hundred students with potential employers. His commitment to the field extends to faculty-mentored research, which he presented at the American Physical Therapy Association Combined Sections Meeting, and international service providing care in under-resourced regions of Guatemala.
Antonio’s address is titled “Grounded: Choosing How We Show Up, Ready for What’s Next,” which you can read now on our website.

The Pendulum Begins to Count
|
Suspended from the third-floor ceiling in the center of the spiral staircase in Harned Hall’s main lobby is the Foucault pendulum, which marks time while the world turns at Puget Sound. University photographer Alex Crook captured this time-lapse photo of it passing over the base of inlaid wood this winter. The base was set in a pattern named for British physicist and mathematician Roger Penrose, who, in the 1970s, developed sets of shapes to tile a surface in regular but nonrepeating patterns. The base was designed and constructed by Professor of Physics Alan Thorndike, who retired in 2012 and died in 2018.
