100 Years of Quantum Mechanics 2025 has been designated by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) as the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology, commemorating 100 years of quantum mechanics. This global initiative seeks to raise awareness of quantum science’s contributions and future potential. 
From October 9, 2025-January 16, 2026, view a new exhibit curated by Lorraine Walsh at the Simons Center Gallery. 
Opening Reception on Thursday, October 9 at 5 p.m. in the Simons Center Gallery and the SCGP lobby.
Public lecture follows reception: GOD PLAYS DICE WITH THE WORLD The Story of Quantum Mechanics Public Lecture by Giuseppe Mussardo on Thursday, October 9 at 5:30 p.m. in the Della Pietra Family Auditorium, SCGP 103.

Stony Brook Brings Campus and Community Together for CommUniversity Day
Stony Brook University welcomed 3,300 visitors to campus for CommUniversity Day, the annual open house that showcases Stony Brook’s research, healthcare programs and community partnerships.

The free event on September 27 featured more than 100 exhibits, performances and demonstrations. Families, students and local residents explored the campus through themed neighborhoods that highlighted areas such as science and technology, health, arts and safety.

Stony Brook Receives Most Applications in Its History, Achieves Highest Enrollment Ever
The State University of New York at Stony Brook, New York’s flagship public university, was sought out by more students as their collegiate choice in the university’s 68-year history.
Stony Brook received the largest number of applications ever with more than 64,000 first-year applications and over 71,000 total undergraduate applications. This represents a 15 percent total application growth in one year and a 64 percent growth since 2021. These applications also represent the largest number of out-of-state and international applications received as the university’s reputation domestically and internationally continues to grow.
