(SACRAMENTO, CA) - The California State Fair is pleased to announce the winners of the 2024 Home Wine Competition. The competition, which took place on April 6 received an impressive 573 entries that showcased the talents of 178 home winemakers from across the state.
Rick Kushman, a New York Times bestselling author and former Sacramento Bee columnist returned for his eighth year as Chief Judge. He holds a Certified Wine Professional credential from the Culinary Institute of America. He has taught wine classes to professionals and novice wine enthusiasts, trained wineries and restaurants on wine and food pairings.
Kushman led a panel of 42 judges, including sommeliers, university professors, and professional winemakers. The judges awarded a total of 3 Best of Show, 23 Best of Class, 34 Double Gold, 66 Gold, 249 Silver, and 177 Bronze winners.

Best of Show White: Jennifer Jeffries for her 2023
Viognier
Best of Show Red: Robert Akin for his 2020 Merlot-Cabernet
Bordeaux Blend
Best of Show Sweet and Other Wine: Sean Joakimson and Bob Joakimson for their 2021 Riesling,
Ice Wine Style
