In February, the Research Clusters reconvened for a follow-up meeting with ORSP and Provost Yenduri to continue their discussions and further solidify each cluster’s strategy.

These conversations focused on refining priority research areas, identifying opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration, and exploring how clusters can build momentum toward larger, competitive external funding opportunities by connecting faculty expertise across disciplines and aligning emerging ideas with SHSU’s broader research priorities.

More details, including how to engage with a cluster and upcoming opportunities, will be shared soon. We’re excited about the momentum already taking shape and look forward to continuing this work with faculty across campus.

ORSP is hosting a Spring series of events to help support your research, proposal development, and funding goals. Next up:

Build Your SciENcv Biosketch 

This hands-on workshop is designed for faculty preparing proposals to federal sponsors. Learn how to create and format your biosketch using SciENcv, understand sponsor-specific requirements (NSF, NIH, and more), and receive real-time guidance from ORSP staff to ensure your document is accurate, compliant, and competitive.

NSF CAREER Informational Session 

ORSP presents this informational session on the NSF's CAREER program, designed for early-career faculty in NSF-supported disciplines. Learn about best practices for developing a competitive proposal and receive real-time guidance from ORSP staff.

To accommodate faculty, we're offering two sessions, both taking place in the ORSP Collaborative Space.

Sessions:

1. March 24, 11:30 a.m.

2. March 25, 11:30 a.m.

ORSP invites SHSU faculty and staff to participate in SPARK 2.0 (Sharing Projects and Research Knowledge), an interactive event designed to strengthen grant writing skills and spark new interdisciplinary collaborations.

Participants will engage in collaborative sessions focused on key elements of competitive proposals, including narrative development, budgeting, research design, and evaluation planning.

SPARK 2.0 offers a supportive space to develop ideas, build connections, and gain practical tools for pursuing external funding.

SHSU policy now requires Research Security CITI training to be completed annually for certain individuals involved in research and sponsored programs.

This training helps ensure compliance with federal regulations related to research integrity and research security.

Who must complete the training:

1. All personnel listed on any active grant award

2. All faculty listed on a research compliance submission (IRB, IACUC, IBC, or UAS/drone)

3. Students ONLY if they are listed on a grant award

Required for: Personnel involved in funded research or listed on research compliance submissions
Duration: ~1 hour
Format: Audio/visual modules with brief knowledge checks
Validity: Must be completed annually

Required for: Anyone traveling internationally on SHSU business
Duration: ~30 minutes
Validity: 4 years

To make our team more accessible to faculty and staff, ORSP is launching weekly Virtual Office Hours beginning March 18.

Every Wednesday from 10:30–11:30 a.m., ORSP staff will be available on Zoom to answer questions related to funding opportunities, proposal development, research support services, and more. Simply join the call anytime during the hour. No scheduling required.

This informal space allows you to connect with our team quickly without waiting for email responses or coordinating a meeting.

TEES is offering a new installment of the Hanover Research training webinar series for TEES Regional Division partner faculty and staff.

This first session will provide updates on recent changes across federal grant-making agencies, including proposal submission processes, review procedures, and anticipated award trends.

Faculty are invited to participate in the Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station (TEES) Annual Research Conference (TARC).

This collaborative event brings together researchers to form interdisciplinary teams, develop project concepts, and pitch ideas for seed funding. The conference focuses on areas such as energy, healthcare, infrastructure, materials, manufacturing, and national security.

Innovative ideas often begin as a simple insight, teaching tool, or “what if?” moment. If you have an idea, no matter how early, we encourage you to submit an intellectual property disclosure to ORSP.

Submitting a disclosure is confidential and does not commit you to patenting or commercialization. It simply allows ORSP to help explore whether your idea could be protected and provide guidance before publishing or presenting.

The Office of Assessment has funding available for assessment-related activities in the form of competitive mini-grants.

Who's eligible to apply?

These grants are available to all SHSU faculty and staff to support new or ongoing assessment practices within programs, offices, or departments, or to help fund travel to make assessment-related presentations at a professional conference.

What's the award amount?

Eligible recipients may request up to $1,000.

What's the deadline?

Grant applications will be accepted beginning February 2, 2026, with a submission deadline of May 22, 2026.

All applicants must complete the Assessment Mini-Grant Application and submit it to thamrick@shsu.edu.

Students are invited to take part in a 45-minute research study exploring how different video and AI-supported lessons affect learning and user experience.

Participants will watch a short lesson, complete a brief quiz, and share feedback through questionnaires. Some lessons include interactive AI or virtual instructors. The study will take place in Dan Rather 209, and light refreshments will be provided.

The Aging Research Collaborative (ARC) invites SHSU undergraduate and graduate students to participate in the Virtual Student Summit, a four-week online program held Fridays in March (March 6, 13, 20, and 27) from 12:00–1:30 PM CT.

Participants will explore careers in aging, build professional networks, and learn about mentorship and career development. Students who complete the summit may be eligible to receive a $100 reward.
