The 2024 Innovation Day aims to foster a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship within the SHSU community by providing a platform for aspiring, innovators and researchers to showcase their groundbreaking ideas and gain valuable insights into commercializing their innovations.
This event will feature a National Science Foundation's Innovation Corps (I-Corps) session, designed to equip participants with the necessary skills and knowledge for successful commercialization, and culminate in an exciting Pitch Competition, where participants can present their ideas to a panel of expert judges and compete for funding and other necessary resources to bring their innovations to market.

Strengthening Texas Agriculture Through Teacher Development |
SHSU, Texas Tech University, and Texas A&M University - Kingsville are collaborating to launch the Cultivating LEAD program, designed to empower pre-service Agricultural, Food, and Natural Resources (AFNR) teachers. Funded by a $750,000 USDA grant awarded to Dr. Mark Hainline for his "Cultivating Leadership, Education, Advocacy, and Development of Pre-Service AFNR Teachers" initiative, this program addresses the ongoing issue of teacher attrition in Agricultural Education.
It focuses on three key areas: agricultural literacy, leadership development, and teacher socialization. The program features three major components:
1) the Legislative LEAD Experience, a two-day event providing insights into government at various levels;
2) the Cultivating LEAD Summer Experience, a weeklong experiential learning journey across Texas focusing on regional agricultural literacy and leadership; and
3) Online Leadership and Policy Modules, offering comprehensive professional development on leadership theory and agricultural policy.
Through these experiences, the program aims to impact around 260 preservice teachers in Texas, equipping them with the skills and support needed to succeed and remain in the field.

Global STEM Leaders to Gather at SHSU |
STEM STEP @ SHSU will implement a 3-week J-1 STEM Summer Camp Training and Development Exchange Program for 12 faculty and research scholars from Texas International Education Consortium (TIEC) participants approved by the U.S. Department of State.
Funded by a TIEC grant awarded to Dr. Li-Jen Lester, the program is set for the summers of 2025 and 2026. It aims to enhance educators' expertise in developing STEM camps in eligible countries across the African, East Asian and Pacific, and Western Hemisphere regions and to boost secondary school students' interest in STEM.
Hosted by SHSU’s College of Science and Engineering Technology (COSET) and the STEM Center, the camp will provide mentorship from local faculty across four departments—Chemistry, Computer Science, Environmental and Geosciences, and Engineering Technology.
Participants will receive guidance in creating action plans for STEM camps in their home countries, supported by student helpers and COSET Ambassadors who will assist throughout the program.
