IRB Resources - New SOPs
Research Compliance in collaboration with our Institutional Review Board (IRB) have developed some new Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to assist faculty and students with various aspects of an IRB submission specifically or the IRB process generally.
These SOPs can be found on the Research Compliance website. Currently, there are only a couple of SOPs that have received approval by the IRB and ORSP. Check back periodically to see new SOPs in the coming weeks and months.
If you have questions about any of the content of these SOPs, please do not hesitate to contact Ms. Sharla Miles (sharla_miles@shsu.edu; ext. 4-4875) with those questions.

Empowering Communities Through Urban Agriculture: SHSU BRIDGE
One of the SHSU BRIDGE Program awardees is kickstarting their project activities over the summer. Led by Dr. Shyam Nair, Assistant Chair of the School of Agricultural Sciences, the project is supported by Plant Sciences undergraduate students Kenneth Agapito, Priscilla Maldonado, and Meghan Traylor, alongside an interdisciplinary group of faculty from the School of Agriculture Sciences, School of Teaching and Learning, and the Department of Computer Science.
The overarching goal of this proposal is to establish an urban agriculture pilot project to provide high school and Hispanic community groups resources and knowledge they need to produce fresh, healthy vegetables sustainably and efficiently through hydroponics and help them to create a sustainable revenue system through training in digital marketing techniques and the development of a smartphone marketing App.
The data and experiences gained from this proof-of-concept project will be used to submit an external proposal. The federal proposal will be create 40 to 50 such groups in the suburbs of Houston and merge them into a self-sustaining and profitable cooperative Community Based Organization (CBO) that provides fresh produce to the local community and generates economic opportunities for its members.
We are proud of this amazing group and look forward to their exciting journey!
