An Update From Your YMCA
We were excited to learn last week that fitness facilities in the northern regions of Michigan were allowed to reopen this Wednesday. We are elated that our fellow Michiganders have remained healthy and safe in the midst of this pandemic, and that by staying safe together we have lowered COVID-19 cases and deaths in our state. Although we are very eager to reopen our doors and welcome you all back, we have not received word today from our state government allowing us to do so. The Dow Bay Area Family YMCA must remain closed until further notice under current guidelines.
Our YMCA is currently part of a group representing fitness facilities across the state and working with the office of the Governor to move the fitness industry forward. Like we have done since we first closed in March, we will communicate with you regularly via email, web, and social media as we gain more knowledge from the state. Be sure to check your email and follow us on Facebook. Your patience and understanding is much appreciated as we continue to wait for directives from local and state governments regarding a reopening date.
We want to help you fulfill your goals and serve our community to our fullest capacity. We truly do miss our members, and we miss seeing our staff every day, too. It has been a long road, but our reopening will come soon. When it does, we'll be ready for you. We are planning for a return that is safe and will last. Please stay with us.
Though our facility remains closed for now, our hands do not idle.
Please visit our Health & Wellness program page on our website for all of the various current in-person and virtual fitness and nutrition programs we are offering. Join our Facebook group, Dow Bay Area Family YMCA on the Go, for live fitness classes and other health and wellness tips.
The Free Youth Food Program has now served over 33,000 meals to youth in Bay County since our facility closed! Meals are still being offered to children every day except Sundays. Please visit our website for the schedule. We are also continuing to distribute and deliver Emergency Food Boxes across Bay County to individuals and families in need. Since our facility closed on March 16th, we have distributed over 800 boxes! More information on how to receive a food box can be found on our website.
We have also been providing Childcare for essential workers since May 18, and starting Monday, June 15, we are offering Sports Summer Camps! Basketball, Tennis, and Flag Football camps will start Monday, but we are offering a variety of other sports throughout the summer. Please visit our website for more information and to register.
