November 2015
Dear Subscriber
If you missed out on any pervious newsletters you can read them here.
The holidays are just around the corner, and you can definately feel the vibe in and around the village. This months newsletter is packed with info on local businesses, some great upcoming events, awesome competitions and of course some great articles from our panel of local business owners and organisations. We also have an interesting survey that we would love you to complete.
The recent passing of two local icons, Edward and Carol Anne, came as a big shock to our little village. They were both lovely people who will be missed in our community. We would like to offer our condolences to the friends and families of our fallen villagers, although gone they will never be forgotten.
Edward (originally from Ireland) visited South Africa some many years ago, fell in love with Cape Town and never left. He was a well known hair dresser who (click here to read more).
Carol Anne who started her career and fueld her passion for the cullenary arts right here in Harfield Village (to read more about her click here).
We love receiving feedback from our readers, and we are particlulary happy to hear that Shereen Bruinders from the First Avenue Line Dance Club is happy with what we are doing within the community. She had this to say:
"Thank you so much, exposure in your Newsletter is professional and eye-catching, I love it. I have confidence that my business will only grow stronger in future being listed on your website. You are a wonderful group of people running the newsletter. Thank you for your assistance and friendly response to the queries I've had in updating my business listing."

It is the month of Movember but how much do you really know about this wacky men’s health awareness campaign? Well here is a little history for you:
Started in 2003 by 2 lads in a pub in Melbourne the campaign totalled 30 participants all from Australia and no funds were raised. Growing in leaps and bounds year on year gaining official charity status in the founding country in 2006. 2007 saw the expansion to Europe and the Americas and South Africa was the first African country to participate in 2010. By 2012 South East Asia was on board and Movember was ranked in the top 100 NGOs for a second year running. 2014 saw 21 countries participate in the Movember campaign, with 4,746,905 participants to date having raised the equivalent of R5.7 billion and funding 832 men’s health projects since its inception.
Their goal is to raise awareness about men’s health issues such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, poor mental health and physical inactivity. If you haven’t taken part this year then do make a plan to join the millions that have already done so and get a group of gents and/or ladies to join in next year. Find out more on their website by clicking here.

POOR CELL PHONE SIGNAL IN HARFIELD VILLAGE AND SUROUNDS. (SURVEY)
Local estate agent, Lew Norgarb who has been practicing in Harfield Village and surrounds for over 10 years now, says many of his clients have voiced their frustrations about the average, poor or non existent cell phone signal in their homes. Some report good service on one side of the house and intermittent or even zero service on the other, sometimes referred to as “dead zones”.

With this in mind we decided that we would to put our readers to the test and run a survey to see what your experiences have been.

We invite you to enter our survey, and would encourage as many of our readers from all areas, to participate. The results of which will published in our next newsletter.
