First Day School Lesson: How to be Grounded |
Adelphi Friend and First Day School teacher Kali Boehle-Silva share their recent First Day School lesson plan, "How to be Grounded." Adelphi offered this lesson with upper elementary/middle school young people last week about how to be prepared and grounded in these times. The lesson was a successful and helpful space for young people to share what they know about themselves, learn more about each other, and ask questions about what the recent election might mean for them and their friends.

Spiritual State of the Meeting Report Queries Now Available
|
The Ministry and Pastoral Care Committee is looking forward to hearing from each Monthly Meeting early next year with the SSoM report from your corner of our Quaker community. This is always a joyful undertaking for us as we read and sense Spirit’s movement among us and use these reports as background for the Yearly Meeting’s Spiritual State of the Meeting Report. At the link below you will find the queries we have composed to help you in this year’s reporting. Please use these as far as they seem right for you. OR feel free to devise queries which suit you better, and if you do so, please share them with us, along with your report, as we might learn from them. M&PC requests reports by mid-April.

| A Message from Search Committee
|
In our effort as a Yearly Meeting to become a anti-racist community and to represent the diversity of our community, we would like to reach out for volunteers who are Friends of Color, Friends under 40, LGBTQIAA+ Friends, and those from rural meetings.
Volunteering on Yearly Meeting committees is a rewarding endeavor and allows you to share your spiritual gifts in a bigger way. You can find a list of Committees here, so you can see where your spiritual gifts can best be served. Please feel free to contact any of your dedicated Search Committee members if you have questions or would like to volunteer.

Working Group on Racism Workshop: Tomorrow, Nov 16
|
On Sat, Nov 16 at 10 a.m. Debby Irving will help Friends learn how to engage in transformational conversations. Because white culture encourages us to avoid conflict, many of us raised in it have not fully developed the insight, skill, and emotional stamina necessary to broach and navigate differences of perspective and opinion, especially when harm to a member of a marginalized group is part of the mix. Too often these conversations are avoided or broached only to go from bad to worse. There is a different way. In contrast to the social norms of whiteness are norms that develop the vulnerability, skill, and courage to create deep connection and resilience. This workshop will explore how to embed new, transformational norms into our personal and institutional practices.
