What's the Deal with SafeTrack?
You've probably been hearing all the buzz about the Washington Area Transit Authority's (WMATA) SafeTrack initiative, but what exactly is it and what does it mean  for your commute?
SafeTrack is a year-long effort to improve the safety and reliability of the Metrorail system by condensing three years worth of maintenance into one year. This will entail round-the-clock single tracking projects, or complete shutdowns of certain lines, called "Safety Surges."
So, what are your options?
RideOn will be adding more buses on certain routes, particularly during the Red Line shutdowns scheduled for August 1-7, 2016 (Takoma to Silver Spring),  August 9-18, 2016 (Shady Grove to Twinbrook), and October 10-November 1 (Fort Totten to NoMa).
Responding to a request from the Montgomery County Department of Transportation, MARC will be adding cars to existing trains during peak periods.
In addition, Capital Bikeshare will be offering a $2 one-time use option.

Parking Rate Increase
The 80-cent hourly rate at the Cordell-St. Elmo (Garage 40), Metropolitan (Garage 49) and Bethesda-Elm (Garage 57) facilities will increase to $1 per hour July 1, the first day of fiscal year 2017.
Save the Date for Walk & Ride 2016!
One of the best ways to beat SafeTrack is to walk around it!
From September 11 - October 1, 2016, BTS and Montgomery County Commuter Services will be hosting our annual Walk & Ride Challenge, in which we have participants form teams and compete to see who can walk the most in three weeks.
