Richard Leakey Memorial Conference: June 5-9:
Stony Brook University will honor the life and legacy of eminent paleoanthropologist, conservationist and SBU professor Richard E. Leakey by hosting a conference with the Turkana Basin Institute (TBI), in partnership with National Geographic Society. Leading scientists, anthropologists and conservationists from around the world will celebrate the immeasurable, life-long contributions by Leakey to furthering the appreciation of Africa’s centrality in the narrative of human evolution. Learn more about the conference and sign up to attend Dr. Louise Leakey's (Richard Leakey's daughter) free public lecture, "Six Decades: The Search for Fossils at Lake Turkana" on June 5. Other talks will be live-streamed for free throughout the conference at stonybrook.edu/live. (Note that the Louise Leakey public lecture will not be live-streamed.)

ATHLETICS: MEMORABLE WOMEN'S LACROSSE SEASON
The memorable women's lacrosse 2023 season came to an end in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Seawolves earned their 10th consecutive berth into the NCAA Tournament by winning the CAA Championship for the first time in program history. SBU went on to defeat No. 20 Penn State, 12-8, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament May 12. They then put forth a valiant effort, but were narrowly edged by No. 9 Loyola Maryland, 9-8, in the second round on May 14.
