Dear Alumni and Friends,

In this first 2023 edition of CSU Matters, let us recognize and bid a fond farewell to our newest group of alumni — the Fall Class of 2022. We wish them success as they enter the workforce, continue their educations or share their knowledge with their communities. Congratulations!

I hope you enjoy the video below, in which we also recognize the impact of radio icon Kid Leo with an honorary degree and hear from former Ohio senator and representative Sandra Williams as our commencement speaker.

Celebrating the Fall Class of 2022

Before we said goodbye to 2022, the CSU community gathered in the Wolstein Center to celebrate our Fall 2022 graduates on Sunday, Dec. 18. To capture the excitement of the day, I spoke with our university valedictorian and graduating students about their experience and their future plans.

CSU Appoints Provost/SVP of Academic Affairs

Dr. Nigamanth Sridhar has served as CSU's Interim Provost and Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs since this spring and has led several strategic initiatives in that time. We are delighted that he will join the University on a permanent basis.

New Grant Supports Inclusive STEM Education

CSU has received an Inclusive Excellence 3 grant to participate in a nationwide learning community and examine student outcomes in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math instruction. Our team of researchers will focus on barriers to education for under-represented students and strategies to develop an inclusive classroom environment.

Student-Athletes Break Academic Records

Our 365+ student-athletes achieved an academic feat, concluding Fall 2022 with an incredible 3.43 semester GPA. This is the 32nd consecutive semester they achieved above a 3.0, and nearly 10% of our Vikings were named to the President's List — an honor reserved for students who maintain the highest academic excellence throughout a semester.

CSU Student Voting on the Rise

CSU has been voted one of the country's Most Engaged Campus for College Student Voting. Thanks to our Office of Civic Engagement, CSU joins a group of 394 colleges and universities with this distinction from the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge.
