I'm always incredulous when we reach this point of the year, but the incredulousness subsequently gives way to panic when I realize it means I have to submit my favorite 3 songs of the year so far.
It's a bit quixotic to believe the music obsessed turbo-nerds at KUTX can narrow it down to just three favorite songs among all the singles released this year. Don't get me wrong, all of us are equal parts confident, sincere, and overbearingly passionate about what were think are the best songs of 2026 — at least at the moment we wrote our submissions. We'll all likely have three different favorites by next week, but there's still a ton of great music to explore, and hopefully you'll find a new favorite too.

‘Bootylicious’ Enters the Charts
June 9, 2001, Destiny's Child released what would become their fourth #1 single, but at the time, their recordings were still a down-home affair, recording at Houston's historic SugarHill Studios. After nearly removing the track's Fleetwood Mac sample for financial reasons, the group reached out to Stevie Nicks for her blessing, and of course, The White Witch obliged.

The FIFA World Cup kicks off today, hosted by three countries for the first time in the tournament’s history. Hosts Juan Diego Garcia and Jimmy Maas share their predictions for how the biggest World Cup yet will play out, and they enlist the help of professional commentator and soccer sage Adrian Healey to separate the contenders from the also-rans.

The Bullock Museum will host a night of country and rockabilly tonight, June 12, as part of their free outdoor concert series Music Under the Star. Rosie Flores headlines, with Dawn & Hawkes opening at 7 pm.
The series continues every Friday in June, with Tameca Jones and Rochelle & the Sidewinders providing a night of blues and soul on June 19, and the Latin-influenced rock of Alejandro Escovedo and Vallejo on June 26.
The performances will be on the Texas Capitol Mall in front of the Museum. Camp chairs and blankets are welcome. Food will be available for purchase from local food trucks and The Star Cafe. Paid parking is available in the Bullock Museum garage.
