Sandra Moon Community Complex Update
Progress continues on the fourth and final phase of construction at the Sandra Moon Community Complex. Recent updates include the theater, where the floor and ramps have been poured and sheetrock work is ongoing. Interior painting is also continuing through the project. The excitement continues to build as the City works toward a ribbon-cutting later this year.

District 3 Deck the Districts Winner
Congratulations to the Mouton family, District 3 winner of the Deck the Districts Holiday Light Contest. The family was recognized by Council Member Jennie Robinson at the Dec. 18 Council meeting and presented with their prize package. Deck the Districts invited residents of all five City Council districts to show off their holiday spirit with festive light displays for a chance to win a prize package and bragging rights for the following year.

Road Resurfacing in District 3
The City Council recently approved funding for Phase 1 of the City’s road improvement plan for the 2026 fiscal year. The improvements include resurfacing and concrete work for neighborhood roads. Several streets in D3 are part of the projects. Some of those include:
  • Lancelot Drive from Queens Place to end of street
  • Navios Drive from Weatherly Road to Weatherly Road
  • Willena Drive from Aldridge Drive to Bailey Cove Road

District 3 Town Hall
Council Member Robinson will hold a town hall on Tuesday, Feb. 17, at 6 p.m. in the Arts Wing of the Sandra Moon Community Complex. Director of Parks & Recreation James Gossett and Executive Director of Arts Huntsville Allison Dillon-Jauken will be the guest speakers. The meeting will also include an extensive update on the final phase of construction at the Moon Complex.

Welcoming Eli Lilly to Huntsville
At a Mars Music Hall program that included Gov. Kay Ivey, pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly and Company announced plans to invest $6 billion to build a next-generation manufacturing facility in Huntsville – the largest industrial private investment ever made in the State of Alabama. Lilly’s campus will focus on domestic production of small molecule synthetic and peptide medicines, including oral GLP-1 products. The project will create 450 high-value jobs, including engineers, scientists, operations personnel and lab technicians.

Sweet Recognition
Council President Jennie Robinson presented Kevin Zurmuehlen, the owner of L'Etoile Patisserie, with a certificate at the Dec. 18 Council meeting recognizing the authentic French bakery that has become a Huntsville staple. The bakery, located at 1214 Meridian St. N, serves hundreds of pastries daily and stands as a shining example of what happens when a dream becomes reality.

How Huntsville Transit Supports Mental Health
Huntsville is blessed to have a premier behavioral healthcare provider in WellStone. And Huntsville Transit is literally going the extra mile to improve access. Transit provides cost-free transportation to WellStone for those who need it, removing an obstacle to mental health. Transit provides up to 10,000 rides each year to and from WellStone.

BLASTing the North Alabama Music 
The Huntsville-Madison County Public Library recently added 50 new albums from north Alabama artists to its free BLAST music streaming platform as the city’s music ecosystem continues to grow. The platform now features music from 245 artists and 279 albums, representing a wide range of genres including metal, Afrobeats, punk, spiritual, hip-hop, R&B, blues, folk and more.

Register for Girls on the Run
Registration is open for the Girls on the Run 2026 season. Open to girls in grades 3-5, The program is designed to inspire participants to recognize their inner strength, increase their level of physical activity, imagine their possibilities and confidently stand up for themselves and others. Teams will be offered at the Dr. Richard Showers, Sr. Recreation Center and Fern Bell Recreation Center. Each site is limited to 15 participants.

Huntsville Police: 2025 Rewind
From helping residents during last winter’s snow to holding community events, 2025 was a busy year for the Huntsville Police Department (HPD). Two graduating classes of officers provided reinforcements and officers also flourished at the 2025 Police & Fire World Games. HPD also opened its Crime Scene Investigation facility on Wheeler Avenue.
