An Ode to President's Week by Chris Saylor |
The holiday week is upon us, In the ski industry we trust, To provide an experience of a lifetime, To each and every guest in their prime.
The mountains are covered in snow, The skiers and snowboarders in tow, Anticipating the thrill of the ride, As they glide down the slopes with pride.
The staff is hard at work, Preparing for the holiday perk, Ensuring every detail is in place, To make sure each guest can embrace.
The instructors teach with passion, Guiding each guest with precision, From the bunny hill to the expert terrain, They make sure every guest gains.
The lift operators work tirelessly, To keep the lift lines moving spritely, Providing a quick and safe ascent, To the top of the mountain's extent.
The rental staff fits every guest, With boots, skis and snowboards their best, Ensuring a comfortable fit and feel, To make the experience real.
The ski patrol is always on call, Ready to respond to any fall, Providing first aid and rescue, Ensuring every guest is anew.
The holiday week is a busy time, But the staff's dedication is sublime, Providing an experience of a lifetime, To make memories that will chime.

"We are Part of the Problem": Our Journey to Create an Inclusive Culture at Work and On the Mountain |
We are on a multi-year journey to address the lack of diversity in the industry and create a welcoming, inclusive, and safe experience for all. In June of 2020, Rob Katz, our CEO at the time, shared a powerful message – “We are part of the problem”. Our sport has barriers to access that are amplified for People of Color and we want to change that.
Since 2020, we have taken steps to build a more inclusive mountain experience and culture. This includes adding our newest core value, Be Inclusive. We want to welcome everyone to our company, resorts and communities. We are building our DEI strategy on accountable actions for leaders and beyond. This year we are investing in our leaders to be able to build diverse representation, prioritize equity in our business practices, and create communities of inclusion - all of which require leadership self-awareness. We are focusing our DEI strategy on accountable actions. In service of moving from awareness to accountability, we launched Elevate, our newest leadership competency.
Beyond our own team, we are expanding our Epic For Everyone Youth Access Program to address barriers to accessing the mountains across our regions. You can read more about what other steps we have taken to be part of the solution.

This episode of Epic By Nature explores the journey of several members of our company who are Black, Indigenous or other People of Color. Their stories are all unique, their journeys very much their own... What was their path to our company? What were some of the challenges and barriers they faced? How have they overcome them and what do they think needs to change as we continue on our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion journey?
