The largest Starbucks in Oklahoma has opened on the main floor of The University of Tulsa’s McFarlin Library to the delight of students, faculty, staff, and those who live nearby. Featuring modern furniture, a full-service coffee bar, and two new state-of-the-art espresso machines, it is the perfect space to study between classes while enjoying a snack, meet friends for a cup of joe, or grab a treat on your way to one of the campus’ many engaging events, such as Lights On TU coming up on Nov. 30!

Like a phoenix
Meet Victor Luckerson, The University of Tulsa’s 2023-24 writer in residence. Originally from Alabama, Luckerson moved to Oklahoma in 2019 to research the history of the Greenwood neighborhood for what would become his acclaimed book "Built from the Fire: The Epic Story of Tulsa’s Greenwood District." As writer in residence, Luckerson works with TU students to develop their research and writing skills and to document the university’s role in the city’s Civil Rights and Black Power movements.

Siegen silver celebration
This month, The University of Tulsa celebrated the 25th anniversary of its partnership with Siegen University in Germany, TU’s longest-running exchange program. Student exchange opportunities, enhanced collaborative research, internships, and so much more have come out of this global relationship. And, starting next summer, Siegen will become the third location added to the JumpstartTU study abroad program. To celebrate the milestone, a delegation from Siegen visited TU during Homecoming Week 2023.

A new band director turns up the music
|

|
This year, The University of Tulsa welcomed one of the biggest freshman classes in TU history. But those aren’t the only new faces. Meet Matthew Schepers, the new director of athletic bands. Schepers has big plans for TU’s Sound of the Golden Hurricane, hoping to increase its size by 30 to 40 students next year and even more the following year. For him, band is a crucial place to find community and come together through a shared love of music.
