The characters you type out over and over again into your digital devices may impact your mental health more than you’d expect. A new study published in Internet Interventions led by Assistant Professor of Psychology Li Gu has found that written login passwords containing affirmations — such as "MusicCalmsMeDown@123"— can offer a boost to one’s mental health.
"One of the biggest challenges in mental health interventions is the fadeouts of the intervention effects — as soon as people complete a session of counseling or training, they start to forget about what they learn either in the counselor’s office or the self-help resources," said Li. "Computer passwords offer a timely option to remind people of these therapeutic messages. Because passwords are simple and have no cost, they can be efficient 'boosters' supplementing mental health interventions. Read the full story here."

Close Your Eyes and You Will Know is an exhibition by Taipei-based artist Yin-Ju Chen and shaman practitioner Li-Chun Lin (Marina). Originally scheduled for the ICA’s Spring 2022 season, the exhibition was closed in early March due to the Omicron outbreak in Shanghai. However, the exhibition evolved further during the lockdown thanks to fruitful online public programs, which took the project in another direction. This fall, the artists will explore the roles AI (artificial intelligence) and language play in unlocking the potential of human consciousness.
