Greeting digesters!

July is in the rear view mirror and the questions keep coming fast and furiously.
What's up with the bridge? Is the Library open in Big Sur? (Answer: Yes! Thursdays to Sundays, from 11 am to 6 pm.) Is the LAB open? (Answer: Yes! Everyday but Monday, noon till 6 pm.)
And, perhaps most commonly, how are folks faring down the coast?
For an answer, click the video below. (It should work, assuming YouTube's algorithms don't shut it down!)

Henry Miller: Reflections of a Cosmic Tourist

In 1975, at the ripe age of 83, Henry sat down with Rolling Stone in his Pacific Palisades home and reflected on, well, everything.
The interview finds him in true "elder statesman" mode and is a must-read!

Listen to Katy and Ed Masuga at the LAB!

On Thursday, August 3rd, brother-sister duo Katy and Ed Masuga stopped by the LAB.
Katy spoke about Miller's use of language, his connection to French philosophers, and why he's rarely taught at American universities. She also read from her new novel, The Blue of Night.
Ed, meanwhile, serenaded us with a batch of evocative old-timey love songs, his mellifluous voice and exquisite finger-picking perfectly attuned to the LAB's acoustics.
Check out a tastefully edited version of Katy's talk here and Ed's performance here!

Henry Miller and...The Thrown Ups?

The Digest is fun because we occasionally unearth some strange "six degrees of separation"-like connections between Henry and seemingly random individuals or, in this case, an iconic Seattle punk band.
What does Henry have to do with the Thrown Ups?
Glad you asked. Click here and find out!
