Join us at our next Normal Park Spark Board Meeting on Friday, January 27 at
8:30am at the Lower School. Board Meetings are a great way to learn more
about upcoming events at Normal Park and the projects Spark funds at our
amazing school. Spark Board Meetings are ALWAYS open to our Normal Park
Community and we encourage you to attend.

In the state of Tennessee, attending school more than 90% of the time is proven to lead to outsized literacy gains and rapid learning growth compared to their frequently absent peers, and significantly improves the chance for students to graduate school on time. It may seem inconsequential to keep your student home for a day or two, but those days can add up quickly. Ultimately, students cannot be expected to thrive in school if they are not at school. We miss your student when he or she is absent. Please remember that students learn best when present and ready to learn. While the work can be made up, the experiences cannot. If you need help with attendance, please contact our administration or office staff.

Friday Night Lightning was such a fun celebration at the upper school campus. We appreciate you buying tickets and sending the students. They had a blast! It was wonderful to see the students being themselves and having fun together. We appreciate the parent volunteers for helping make the event special.

It's College and Career Week at Normal Park!

January 23rd-27th both campuses will be participating in activities and discussions to gain our College and Career Awareness!

We will wrap up the week with a fun dress-up day on Friday the 27th! We invite all students to come to school sporting their favorite college gear or dressed up as their future career.

Donation Opportunity:

4th grade is in need of shoeboxes. Please bring to 4th grade teachers any shoeboxes that you may have! These will be used for dioramas, so they need to be actual shoeboxes and not narrow Amazon boxes.

Normal Park 8th graders had the opportunity to go the Get Future Ready School Choice Fair on January 11th with other 8th graders from Hamilton County Schools. They got a chance to visit each high school's booth to ask questions. There were local businesses and professionals from many career fields for the students to learn more about what qualifications and skills it takes to be employed in specific careers. Students spoke to professionals as their first "practice" of an interview!

Normal Park Bike Club

Kat Volzer from White Oak Bicycle Co-op held a bike maintenance workshop for the upper school's bike club. The kids learned how to clean their bikes and keep them fine-tuned! It was a blast.

The Upper School will begin collecting new and used clothes, shoes, school supplies, as well as hygienic products that we can distribute to students in need of such things. Students will be able to pick items that interest them/are needed. If this is something you wish for your student to participate in, please complete and return the form sent home before break or email hb_colby@hcde.org. *If you are interested in donating to the NP Closet, please be on the lookout for more information as we learn about the greatest needs/sizes. We will begin accepting donations in the following weeks.

Middle School Baseball tryouts will be Monday 2/13 through Thursday 2/16 at Rivermont YAA. Times TBD.

Coach Joe Winland will also host OPTIONAL conditioning for baseball players prior to 2/13. More details to come!

Governor’s Early Literacy Foundation is partnering with the Tennessee Department of Education to provide at-home reading resources for free to all Tennessee families of K–2 children to help young learners become stronger readers. Based on your child’s grade level, they will receive the At-Home Decodable Book Series, a collection of seven booklets containing 20+ exciting stories full of sounds and words to practice, and age-appropriate, high-quality Scholastic books.
