In a recent review article titled " Current Directions in Visual Perceptual Learning," NYU Shanghai Chief Scientist and Professor of Neuroscience Zhong-Lin Lu and his long-term collaborator Barbara Anne Dosher, Professor of Cognitive Sciences at the University of California, Irvine, systematically examined research development, theories, models and applications of visual perceptual learning over the past thirty years. They also pointed out existing gaps in the field to inspire future research and collaboration.
"Despite the tremendous progress made in our understanding of visual perceptual learning over the last three decades, there are still many unanswered questions," said Lu."Our goal was to have an integrated article that can connect different branches of researchers in perceptual learning and facilitate collaborations among them. There’s great value for scientists to learn from each other’s work."

Professor David Hunsaker's paper was recently published in the journal of Negotiation and Conflict Management Research. The study shows that negotiators should be careful when expressing anger during the negotiation process. "Many negotiators feel that they need to express anger in order to get a better deal, but anger can hurt the relationship between negotiators," said Hunsaker.
Hunsaker said he and his co-author found that anger expressed at the beginning of negotiation can be less harmful. "Our research demonstrates that anger expressed in the later, cooperative stages of negotiation is more harmful to relationships than anger expressed near the beginning of the process," he said, "The lesson for negotiators is that if you must express anger, it's best to express it early in the process and then move on to more cooperative strategies."

In Vox this week, visiting professor and veteran journalist and author Ray Suarez writes about the key Latino vote in the 2022 US elections, and how the Republican Party is slowly winning over Latino voters. "The lingering effects of the pandemic, the highest inflation in forty years, and two-thirds of Latinos agreeing with the overall US majority that the country is on the wrong track make for an unquestionably difficult midterm season," he writes.

Global Finance Magazine interviewed Assistant Professor of Global China Studies Maria Adele Carrai for a piece on Chinese investment in African nations. She said that most African countries request investment and financing for specific infrastructure projects. "China relies on host countries' requests, and this often leads to the poor calculation of risks and economic returns, and the construction of white-elephant projects," she said. "However, under the increased international scrutiny and criticisms, China—including its lenders—have become much more cautious."
