Job Searching Tips for Graduate Students
|
With graduation around the corner, now is a great time to start your job search. Searching for a job can take time, and these strategies will help you build a foundation for success and stay positive.
|
-
Professional Associations:
Professional associations provide platforms to connect with professionals and build your reputation in your field. This can lead to mentorship, collaboration on projects, and job leads. Many professional associations also maintain job boards that list positions that may not be advertised on popular job sites.
|
-
Networking:
Incorporate your advanced education into your professional brand and then find ways to connect with members of your field. Utilize LinkedIn to build and maintain relationships in your field while showcasing your expertise and academic achievements. Connect with alumni and faculty as they may have leads about open positions and/or networking events.
|
- Leverage your Academic experience:
Highlight the transferable skills you developed in your graduate classes such as research, analytics, and communication skills. Frame your graduate research, practicums and academic experiences as relevant and valuable to potential employers.
Be patient and persistent. Try not to get discouraged as it may take longer than expected and stay positive.
Remember that The Career Center is always a key place to connect with numerous resources at your disposal.
