Dear Playhouse Friends,
We are thrilled to be kicking off our 102nd Season tonight with the golden aged favorite, Hello, Dolly! If you have never seen it, you’ll love discovering this wonderful piece of theater history, complete with songs you’ll leave the theatre humming, great dancing, wonderful performances, and spectacular costumes. If you’ve seen it before, treat yourself to another trip into Yonkers, New York City, and Harmonia Gardens to see Dolly back where she belongs We’re also excitedly looking ahead to the rest of our season and I hope to see you all at our next round of auditions on September 24 & 25 at 6:00 pm at the Playhouse Rehearsal Hall at 1158 East 12th Street, when we’ll be looking for actors to fill the casts of Matilda, Evita, and Shakespeare in Love. These shows all feature large, diverse casts, so I really encourage you to come out to auditions and throw your hat in the ring. One of my favorite things about community theatre is the word “community.” Our productions bring together people of all ages, from all walks of life, from all ethnicities, and from all cultures, to bond over the common creation of something that can bring joy and insight to our Erie community. If you’ve never auditioned before or even been on stage ever, but have always thought it would be fun, please come join us! We’d love to add you to the community of friends who grace our stage.
Hope to see you soon!
Kate

Hello, Dolly! The Erie Playhouse is excited to present Hello, Dolly!, the Broadway blockbuster, bursting with humor, romance, high-energy dancing, and some of the greatest songs in musical theater history. The show has become one of the most enduring musical theatre hits, with four Broadway revivals and international success, as well as an Oscar-winning film version in 1969. The story follows bigger-than-life Dolly Gallagher Levi (Karen Brennan), a matchmaker of sorts, who is set on finding a match for Horace Vandergelder (Rich Tryzbiak), the well-known half-a-millionaire of Yonkers, New York. Her intentions, as good as they might be, tend to grow a bit out of control as she meddles with the love lives of Vandergelder’s shop clerks, Cornelius Hackl and Barnaby Tucker (Josh Lapping and A. J. Ferretti), and mentions some lovely ladies she knows that might make good matches for them, hat shop owner Irene Molloy (Kate Thiem) and her shop assistant, Minnie Fay (Jensen Halasz). Additionally, Dolly can’t help interfering with Vandergelder’s niece Ermengarde (Rebecca Ropelewski), who is in love with aspiring artist Ambrose Kemper (Seamus Clerkin), who Vandergelder doesn’t approve of. With a talented cast of close to 40 performers bringing style and excitement to the production, Hello, Dolly! is full of warmth and high spirits, and certain to thrill and entertain audiences again and again. The talented ensemble is under the direction and choreography of Richard Davis. Additional production credits go to John Burton as assistant director, and features classically-designed sets by Christine Daugherty, a full pit orchestra led by Patrick Rose, and Ryan Ingram and Richard Davis’ lavish period costumes. HELLO, DOLLY! SEPTEMBER 14−15, 20−23, 26−30.

Our first Youtheatre show of the season, Miss Nelson is Missing! will be on the LECOM Stage October 12−21. Based on the popular children’s book series by Harry G. Allard Jr., Miss Nelson can't control her crazy classroom because she's just too nice. But when she disappears, her replacement is the hard-as-nails, detention-loving, recess-canceling, substitute teacher Viola Swamp! With The Big Test approaching, the kids suddenly realize how much they miss Miss Nelson and they'll do anything—including hiring a private eye—to solve the mystery of her disappearance and bring her back.

PLAYtime News
PLAYtime has exciting news times three this month! First of all, PLAYtime has grown once again and as we begin the new school year, we will be helping build literacy through the arts in 25 classrooms! Of course, this means we need a new facilitator that is up to the challenge, and so our second piece of exciting news is that Miss Maeve Kirby has joined our PLAYtime team.
| |
Maeve recently graduated from Duquesne University with a degree in Music Therapy. As a performer, Maeve has been involved at the Erie Playhouse since 2006. She most recently participated in their production of The Hunchback of Notre Dame. She also assisted with the Erie Playhouse’s performance of The Friend Ship in partnership with the Barber Center and worked at a week-long theatre camp in partnership with Edison Elementary, The Achievement Center, and the Boys and Girls Club. Welcome to the team, Maeve. Finally, we are thrilled to announce that because of the generous support of the Erie Community Foundation for “Forging Connections” this next PLAYtime project will begin this year and will be featured in two of the Erie School District community schools soon. More to come!
