Are you interested in learning more about human anatomy? Check out the Minor in Human Anatomy through the School of Medicine & Health Sciences.

The course sequence for this minor is already set for you (see above), and you will need to have completed BISC 1111 and BISC 1112 to start with ANAT 2130 in fall 2023!  

This minor is open to undergraduate students in CCAS, School of Public Health, SEAS, and the School of Business.

GWU American Lung Cancer Screening Initiative (ALCSI) - E-Board Positions!

Opportunity to join the Executive Board for the GWU American Lung Cancer Screening Initiative! The American Lung Cancer Screening Initiative (ALCSI) is a non-profit organization of over 200 doctors and students working to increase awareness of lung cancer and lung cancer screening in communities across the country. At the GWU Chapter of ALCSI, we hope to continue to fight to increase awareness of lung cancer in our GWU community and around D.C. by working with elected officials to pass legislation regarding lung cancer screening and ending the stigma associated with lung cancer.

Research Technician I - Neurosurgery - University of Pittsburgh Medical Center

Seeking a highly motivated full−time researcher to work in a dynamic and fast−paced Translational Neuro-Oncology research laboratory at the Hillman Cancer Center of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

The candidate will work in an NIH/NCI funded laboratory under the direction of a neurosurgeon-scientist and will help design and carry out experiments investigating mechanisms of glioma biology. Main roles include obtaining and handling brain tumor specimens directly from the operating room during craniotomies, preparing clinical specimens for metabolomics analysis, correlating patient outcomes to brain tumor metabolomics data, clinical and scientific data entry, and laboratory benchtop and animal work.

The candidate must be a highly motivated individual comfortable with advanced lab practices and have previous experience working with cell culture or molecular biology techniques. Additional experience in analyzing large datasets and computer programming skills are desirable. Good communication skills, record-keeping habits, and willingness to work as part of a team are mandatory.

This position is ideal for a candidate with an interest in pursuing an MD or PhD degree in the future. The candidate will receive ample scientific and clinical mentorship by faculty physician-scientists at UPMC Shadyside.

A two year full-time commitment is requested and applicants must have completed their Bachelor’s degree by July of 2023 to apply.

Adheres to bio-hazardous or “red bag” waste policy and procedure for properly disposing of biomedical waste.

Academic Scribe Program - Johns Hopkins - Maryland Locations (Lutherville, Bowie, Fulton, Baltimore, and Bethesda)

The Office of John Hopkins Physicians (OJHP) is in search of bright and motivated individuals to perform medical scribing for providers throughout Johns Hopkins Medicine (JHM) starting this summer and early fall. Medical scribes are trained clerical personnel who capture accurate and detailed documentation of clinical encounters in real time. They assist clinicians in gathering data and navigating medical records, without making independent interpretations or judgments.

We are looking for full-time positions, and the requested commitment is at least 11 months, though arrangements for shorter and longer service terms can be discussed. It may be necessary that you have your own vehicle, as many practice locations are outside of Baltimore City. A desire to pursue further medical professional training is preferred, and scribes will receive training in medical and clinical terminology, professionalism and communication, and in working in electronic health record systems.

Dr. Aleskow's externship program has been around for 40 years!  He is seeking multiple upcoming/recent grads who are interested in at least one gap year and are interested in pursuing medicine.  

The position would have the extern describe patient histories, perform and interpret electrocardiograms and pulmonary function, evaluation’s, and communicate with patients with regard to follow up and results. This externship has been an existence for over 40 years, and has been received wonderfully by students. The position is a full-time position which requires at least a one-year commitment.
