Hate Crime / Criminal Mischief

On April 3, 2025, the Department of Campus Safety received a report of criminal mischief (vandalism) motivated by anti-Muslim bias. The incident occured in the multifaith prayer room in Bobst Library (room LL2), in Manhattan.

On April 3, 2025 at 5:38 p.m., an NYU staff member reported that the multifaith prayer room was vandalized with offensive images carved into the walls and the prayer mats were tossed around the room.

No physical injuries were reported. The reporter has been offered support services. The NYPD has been notified and is investigating.

If you witness behavior that seems odd or out of place, trust your instincts and report it to your nearest Campus Safety Officer.
Trust your instincts. If you feel that you may be in danger, seek out others or an open NYU facility that has Campus Safety Officers posted.
If you are the victim of a crime, do not engage with the assailant as that may put you in further danger.
If you are the victim of a crime, call 911 immediately and then report the incident to the Department of Campus Safety at (212) 998-2222.
