Hello Volunteer!
Spring is springing up all around us and volunteer needs are ramping up as we prepare for Spring Migration. We've got lots of ways for you to get involved all around Houston. Check them out below - I hope you can find a meaningful way to contribute!

High Island, High Island, High Island!

There's a LOT happening at High Island! Come help us improve our sanctuaries here for both our migratory birds and our visitors. With so much going on there's ways for birders of all skill levels to get involved!

Edith L. Moore Sanctuary Stewards

Edith L. Moore Nature Sanctuary, Memorial

Every Saturday and Sunday, 3 hour shifts

The secret is out! The people of greater Houston have found our beloved nature sanctuary and our quiet little walk in the woods has become a bit of a local destination. New visitors aren't familiar with the difference between a nature sanctuary and a public park, so we are looking for volunteers who believe in our mission and enjoy interacting with the public, who can connect with these first-timers and teach them what it means to enjoy nature while being a good steward of the habitat.

Raptor and Education Center Work Party

Saturday, March 21st, 9am-noon
Spring and Summer 2020
Spend a morning with us helping out at Sims Bayou. Tasks can include gardening, trail maintenance, forest restoration, filling bird feeders, and more!

Bird Collision Monitors

Downtown Houston
April 12th - May 16th, late night and morning
Houston Audubon has partnered with the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, and we will need citizen science volunteers to help us understand where bird deaths are happening and how we can prevent them.

Volunteer Receptionists

Houston Audubon Headquarters
Starting ASAP, one day per week, 10am-3pm

We are looking for volunteers with strong customer service skills and a professional demeanor to help out in our headquarters once a week. Duties will include answering the phone and routing calls, greeting visitors to the office and basic administrative work. Perfect if you love birds but would prefer to work indoors.

Dos Vacas Muertas Spring Migration Preparation work party

Dos Vacas Muertas Sanctuary, Galveston Island               Wednesday, March 18th, 9am-noon

Join us for a morning of sanctuary maintenance that will help prepare this habitat for the spring bird migration. Tasks will include removing brush to make room for protective fencing, trimming trails, and non-native invasive plant removal.
Houston Audubon will provide all tools and supplies. Sign up here for more details!

Bolivar Flats Beach Clean-up
Bolivar Flats, Bolivar Peninsula
Saturday, March 21st, 9am-noon
Come help Houston Audubon clean up the beach! Not only will this activity reduce the amount of plastics that our shorebirds and wildlife are exposed to, but clean-ups provide great opportunities to witness the wildlife of Bolivar, the activity on the ship channel, and experience hands-on conservation. All ages are welcome. We hope you can join us!
Sign up here, and tell your friends! We need as many volunteers as we can get!
Want to help out Houston Audubon, but don't have any extra time on your hands? Here's an  easy way to support our efforts. When you're out and about at restaurants, cafes, community centers, etc., look and see if there's a card rack or bulletin board. When you see one just send me the name of the business and location and we will know where we can reach people in the local community!
Thank you for taking the time to read this email, and thank you as always for supporting Houston Audubon!

With Gratitude,
