The IRA Rollover is Extended
The charitable IRA is back but there is a short window in which you can complete a gift.
The provision allows individuals age 70½ or older to make tax-free gifts totaling up to $100,000 from a traditional IRA account directly to qualified charities. This distribution will not be treated as taxable income. This provision will expire Dec. 31, 2014, and it is unknown whether it will be extended into the coming year.
In order to qualify, contributions must go directly to a public charity and be made from traditional IRAs or Roth IRAs. The IRA rollover provision encourages donors to give back to their communities.
Keep in mind that supporting organizations and donor advised funds are not eligible recipients for an IRA Charitable Rollover.
