Career Navigator News is a biweekly newsletter from your Career Navigator, Katie Hendrickson.

Here's What I've Been Up to

Superintendent Leadership Meeting
It was a pleasure for me (and the other career navigators) to present to the superintendent Leadership group last Friday. SSC's Sarah Ness gave an overview of FutureForward™ and each career navigator had a moment to review how each of our schools is using the tool. After, I received an invitation to present at one of my school's December Board meeting. I'm excited to be able to show this aspect of my role as well as FutureForward™.

If you have any interest in me presenting a short demo to your school board, please let me know.

YST Grant
In other news, our career navigator collaborative turned in our letter of intention for the Youth Skills Training Grant last week. We will now begin the hard work of actually writing the grant for a CNA pathway!

Partnerships
Last week I met to discuss partnerships with business professionals including: a plant manager, a bank president, a real estate agent, a special education teacher, and a newspaper editor. Each of them were so generous with their time and dedication to students in SE Minnesota. Your students will soon be able to learn about these careers, using the FutureForward™ platform! Thanks also to those who have shared some of your professional contacts! These warm handoffs are so appreciated.

CTE Works! Summit
Last week I was able to view a few of the CTE Works seminars, designed to educate, inform, and inspire the value of CTE. I would highly recommend for 2021.

As always, thank you for the supporting the efforts to increase career awareness and exploration activities for students!

Following Up: Survey Results
As many of you know, I sent out a survey in September to help with strategic planning and guidance for the rest of this year and next. Thanks to those who met with me and/or were able to complete the document - it  helps to understand and meet your expectations! I want to share feedback from what my schools have emphasized as primary goals for me this year.
  • Serve as a resource for teachers and schools to make connections with our business community.
  • Form partnerships that provide strong experience and opportunities for our students.
  • Provide strategy and facilitation to strengthen job shadow opportunities for students.
  • Find opportunities for students in career exploration in which students can gain certifications.
I welcome further thoughts on this anytime. I will continue to work on these goals with your vision in mind.
Teachers, I am your resource - don't hesitate to reach out!
Contact me for a brief training on how to access opportunities like these on FutureForward™.
