Spring and Summer Camps
During Spring Break CTRA hosted the first camp since the start of the pandemic. Our vaulting unicorns
Smokey and Keagan took great care of the 6 participants who improved their skills, formed lasting
friendships, and learned about the horse as a sentient being as well as their care. At the end of week
everyone was excited to show off their vaulting skills in a demo for family and friends.
At the beginning of July, we hosted two separate weeks of Pony Pals Camp for current CTRA riders. Both
weeks were filled with lots of laughter, crafts, scavenger hunts and most importantly ponies. Special
thanks go out to our amazing volunteers and our Canada Summer Jobs students Rachel and Linnaea who helped make this camp a success.
It was great to be able to offer camps again here at CTRA and we look forward to our last camp of the
year at the end of August before we start our regular programming in the middle of September.

CanTRA Instructor Training
In 2022, CTRA was able to host our first "in-person" training and examination for CanTRA instructors since 2019.  Training was held over a 5 month period and consisted of 2 three day workshops, 1 two day workshop, at home work.  The technical evaluation and exam were held in July.  A huge THANK YOU to the Volunteers, the Volunteer Coordinator, Instructors, Mentors, and Jane James for all of the work and time put in to making this a success for the candidates!!
Volunteer News
In April, to kick off Volunteer Appreciation Week, CTRA had a Volunteer Appreciation BBQ.
June was a great opportunity to talk to some seasoned CTRA Volunteers at the Senior Living Well Trade Fair at the Cowichan Community Centre where CTRA had their information booth. Some great partnerships, with  members of the Chemainus Rotary and CTRA Volunteers participated in 2 bottle drives  raising over $2400 (combined) to go towards horse care and feed.  We also had 8 volunteers at the epic July Laketown Shakedown selling 50/50 tickets, raising funds for the Laketown Benevolent Society and for CTRA.
Fjord Fun Fact
Vikings valued these horses for their ruggedness, calm temperment and their bravery in battle.  Archaeological excavations at Viking burial sites indicate that the Fjord horse type has been selectively bred for at least 2,000 years

Have Your Say!
During the month of June, CTRA, with Scale Collaborative, surveyed the membership and participants to learn how we can serve you better and what future activities the participants and members would like to see.  From the survey, we received many great ideas and comments.  The majority of respondents would like more frequent correspondence, and community activities at CTRA.   With that in mind, keep your eyes peeled for an exciting new schedule coming for the 2022/2023 calendar year!!
