It’s a dream 30 years in the making, and now Bridgeport city leaders insist a multi-billion dollar plan to develop its waterfront is finally gaining momentum.
City leaders, including Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch, report significant progress on the $2.8 billion Steelpointe Harbor project, a 2-million-square-foot waterfront project that will offer retail, restaurants, entertainment and luxury apartments.
On Wednesday, Mayor Finch held a news conference to declare the beginning of construction season for the SteelPoint site.

"Mayor Finch Unveils New Soccer Field" - News 12

This week, Mayor Bill Finch took a tour of a new soccer field located in the South End neighborhood of Bridgeport.
The synthetic turf field is located on the grounds of the newly constructed Roosevelt Elementary School, a nearly $45 million school construction project that is replacing the pre-kindergarten to eighth-grade school at the intersection of Prospect Street and Park Avenue.
The new field will include lighting and will be available for use by kids and families of the community.
Bridgeport has launched the largest school construction effort in the city’s history. Once complete, the program will have created more than 3,000 jobs and more than half of Bridgeport public school kids will attend a new or newly-renovated school, ensuring they are learning in the right environment.

So far this season, crews have already repaired nearly 4,000 potholes.

"Double Trouble For Those Who Text And Drive" - Hartford Courant
A month-long effort to stop people from texting and driving kicked off this week — with twice as much police power as a ticketing blitz done last September.
Police officers from 50 towns and cities, plus state troopers, will be on the lookout for illegal cellphone use during phase 2 of an enforcement effort called "U drive. U text. U pay." Twenty five police agencies participated in phase 1 in September.
During phase 1 in September, police from around the state gave out more than 7,000 tickets. Bridgeport handed out the most, with more than 650 citations.
Public transit-oriented development is the wave of the future in Bridgeport. Making the city more walkable also means that Bridgeport needs to enhance pedestrian safety. That’s why the city is investing in elevated walkways, increased school zone safety measures, and other deterrents to reckless driving, especially in high walking traffic areas.
