Welcome to the first edition of Montgomery College’s Community Engagement newsletter. We hope to bring you useful information each month about opportunities at Montgomery College. You can expect information about upcoming classes, workshops, help with financial aid, scholarships and much more.

Transitional Living Scholarship

The Montgomery College Foundation announces the Transitional Living Scholarship for women with dependent children who are currently experiencing housing insecurity or have been in transition/homeless over the last two years. If you are interested in completing a college degree, or getting a certificate or taking classes that lead to jobs, please apply.

Which college expenses does the scholarship cover?
The Transitional Living Scholarship covers college tuition and fees and other costs related to course or certificate completion.

Who can apply?
Women with dependent children, who are currently living in transition (homeless or have been homeless in the last two years or not in permanent housing.)

How to apply

Community Engagement Success Story

My name is Jeeyoung and I am 44 years old and originally from Korea. I heard about the Montgomery College Community Engagement Center at East County when I was at the library one day. I decided to take the 90-hour Child Care Provider class that would allow me to teach at a child care center. All the staff at the Montgomery College Community Engagement Center gave me lots of information about classes and jobs and helped me to prepare my resume and practice interviewing skills. I was able to get several interviews for positions at child care center and was offered a job at the center shortly after finishing the class that allows me to teach Korean to the children.

My experience with Community Engagement was great! All of the staff’s help to finish class, get a job, and giving answers and information to all of the questions I had, allowed me to continue my path and dream of teaching. My son still remembers and talks about the graduation party that we had on the last day of class.
