Seniors Receive an Inspirational Message

Dr. Bryan Kent Wallace spoke to seniors on Thursday, January 17th, to encourage them to set their self-expectations high and for seniors to know and realize the sky is the limit for their future plans. Dr. Wallace is a professor of Physics at Fisk University. Thank you Dr. Wallace for sharing with the Class of 2020.

MLK Quartet invites to Open January 14th School Board Meeting

The MLK Horn Quartet was invited to perform at the January 14th Metro Nashville School Board Meeting. The performers included Seniors Ben Coates and Carrington Capps, Junior Parwan Machingal and Freshman Marlene Samuels. They performed two pieces, Im Walde by Felix Mendelssohn and the Hunting Chorus from "Der Freischutz" by C.M. Von Weber. The students were taught and aided by their private instructor Mrs. Kristen Bowers. Congratulations to them on a great performance!

Mr. Scott Carter is Selected the Teacher of the 2nd Nine-Weeks

Mr. Carter has been chosen as The Teacher of the 2nd Nine-Weeks. He was chosen due to his passion for the subject he teaches and his dedication to his students. All of his students enjoy his class Advanced Placement Environmental Science (APES) and his quarterly field trips. They also look up to him and his continuous positive attitude. Mr. Carter also sponsors the Green Club which encourages students to help recycle at MLK and keep it environmentally friendly! Congratulations Mr. Carter and thank you for all you do!

Great MLK Bowling News!

Congratulations to our Bowling Team! The Lady Royals are DISTRICT CHAMPIONS!!! The men placed 2nd in the district. Everyone is a winner. Thank you for a great season!

Girls Bowling: Kendoll Hayes

MLK Girls team competed in the regional tournament on Jan. 16th in Franklin. Kendoll Hayes had an game high of 182 against Page.
Kendoll will also bowl in the State Championships as a Division 1 Girl's Individual Qualifier on January 23rd - 24th in Smyrna, TN.
Congratulations to the Royals Bowling Teams on great season.

MLK Students Attend Hamilton

A sponsor gave two tickets for two MLK students to attend Hamilton. Noemi Miller and Alexia Williams experienced Hamilton on Saturday, January 18th. Congratulations Noemi and Alexia!

The female engineering club FACES (Females advancing and Changing Engineering and the Sciences) will construct a can structure for engineering week. We are in need of blue Progresso soup cans (regular size) for this project. Please deliver all cans to the counseling office by January 31.

Winter Blood Drive

Our winter Blood Drive is almost here! MLK is hosting a Red Cross Blood Drive in the Big Gym from 9:00-2:00 on Monday, 1/27.

Parents/Guardians, if you are interesting in donating, please email Ms. Shannon Cain (shannon.cain@mnps.org) with your preferred appointment time. We have appointments every 15 minutes.

Students, please stop by Ms. Cain's classroom to set up your appointment. If you donated in the fall, you are eligible for this blood drive.

A few exciting things:

If you donate blood 3 times, you will receive a red cord to wear at graduation!
The sports team, club, student organization, etc. with the most blood donors will earn a pizza party from Ms. Cain.

A few important reminders:

You must be at least 16 years old to donate
Please see Ms. Cain for the required forms (16 year-olds have two forms, 17+ year-olds have one form).

Thank you so much for considering blood donation. We were able to collect 46 units at our fall Blood Drive!

Rain jackets, hoodies, and T-shirts in all your favorite colors (and sizes) are now AVAILABLE. Come check out the new SWAG!!!
